DC made one change to their playing eleven – Herschelle Gibbs made way for Dwayne Smith.

RCB made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Sridharan Sriram and Praveen Kumar made way for Manish Pandey and K P Appanna.

On winning the toss, Anil Kumble, RCB’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 35, and lost three wickets.

Adam Gilchrist, DC’s skipper, scored a ball, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls (Rob)into the match, he was caught by Uthappa. Dale Steyn broke the one-run stand.

The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Tirumalasetti Suman, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was caught by Ross Taylor off the bowling of Steyn.

Gibbs, whose 10-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored a dozen. Ten balls later, Steyn broke the 13-run stand.

DC scored 50 off 8.2 overs (51 balls). RCB had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 42 balls. While Rohit Sharma’s contribution to the partnership was 19, Mohnish Mishra’s contribution to it was 28. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

The fourth-wicket pair eventually scored 82. Mishra, whose 30-ball innings included a boundary and three sixes, eventually scored 41. Sixty-one balls after Gibbs’ dismissal, Steyn and Uthappa ran him out.

DC scored 100 off 13.3 overs (82 balls). RCB had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Andrew Symonds, whose 20-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 19. Thirty balls after Mishra’s dismissal, he was stumped by Uthappa. Kumble broke the 35-run stand.

DC scored 151 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.

RCB scored 50 off 7.2 overs (44 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave DC no reason to be in seventh heaven.
