DD made four changes to their playing (Dani)eleven – Vettori,
Mithun Manhas, Rajat Bhatia and Farveez Maharoof made way for A B de Villiers,
Andrew McDonald, Pradeep Sangwan and Sarabjit Ladda.
On winning the toss, Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s skipper,
chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 44, and lost a wicket.
Madan, whose 19-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 15.
Thirty-five balls into the match, he was caught by Mishra. McDonald broke the
14-run stand.
MI scored 50 off 6.3 overs (41 balls). DD had conceded eight extras at

Tendulkar, whose 27-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 30.

Ambati Rayudu, whose 21-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 24. Nineteen balls later, he was caught by de Villiers. Ashish Nehra broke
the 29-run stand.
MI scored 150 off 18.3 overs (113 balls). DD had conceded 10 extras at
that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 18 balls. While Jean-Paul Duminy’s
contribution to the partnership was five, the contribution of Kieron Pollard,
the player of the match, to it was 45. Extras didn’t contribute to the
partnership.
Duminy, whose 14-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 21. He was
unbeaten, as was Pollard, who didn’t add to the aforementioned score. His
13-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and five sixes.
MI scored 183 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.
Ladda, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 14.

Gautam Gambhir, DD’s skipper, scored 17. His nine-ball innings included

The third-wicket pair put on three. Virender Sehwag, whose 18-ball

De Villiers had no reason to be in seventh heaven – a dozen balls later,
he was trapped leg be‘four’ wicket by Murtaza, who broke the 10-run stand.

Dinesh Karthik, who faced 14 balls, scored 11. Murtaza had a reason to
be in seventh heaven – he broke the four-run stand.
DD scored 100 off 13.3 overs (81 balls). The number of extras they had
conceded at that point gave MI no reason to be in seventh heaven.
McDonald, whose 31-ball innings included a six, scored 33. He was
unbeaten.
Mishra, who faced 17 balls, scored a (Fernan)dozen. Five overs after
Karthik’s dismissal, the Sri Lankan broke the 26-run stand.
Sangwan, who faced five balls, scored half-a-dozen. He was unbeaten.
MI eventually conceded eight extras. DD, who scored 144 for the loss of
seven wickets off 20 overs, lost by 39 runs.
Bravo and Zaheer Khan bowled two wicketless overs apiece. While the
former conceded 26, the latter conceded 23.
Pollard, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 15.
Harbhajan, who bowled four overs, conceded 24. He picked up a wicket.
Fernando and Murtaza bowled four overs each, picking up two scalps
apiece. While the former conceded 32, the latter conceded 18.
MI advanced to the playoffs.
