Pujara, Ishant and Ajantha Mendis made way for David Hussey, Laxmi Ratan Shukla
and Iqbal Abdulla.
On winning the toss, Sourav Ganguly, KKR’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 22, and lost four wickets.
Although his four-ball innings included a six, Chris Gayle had no reason
to be in seventh heaven – 14 balls into the match, he was stumped by Mahendra
Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper. Ravichandran Ashwin, the player of the match, broke
the 17-run stand.
The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Brendon McCullum, who
faced four balls, didn’t open his account. Four balls later, he was caught by
Muralitharan off the bowling of Ashwin.
The third-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Ganguly, whose 12-ball
innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 10. A couple of balls later, he
was dismissed by Doug Bollinger.
The younger of the Hussey brothers faced three balls, failing to get off
the mark. Four balls later, he was stumped by Dhoni. Ashwin broke the two-run
stand.
KKR scored 50 off 9.5 overs (59 balls). CSK had conceded 11 extras at
that point.
The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 46 balls. While Manoj Tiwary’s
contribution to the partnership was 18, Angelo Mathews’ contribution to it was 25.
Extras’ contribution to the partnership was 10.
Tiwary, whose 31-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored
27. Sixty-four balls after David’s dismissal, he was caught by Murali Vijay.
Suresh Raina broke the 73-run partnership.
Wriddhiman Saha, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Seven balls
later, he was stumped by Dhoni. Shadab Jakati broke the four-run stand.
KKR scored 100 off 16.3 overs (99 balls). CSK had conceded a dozen extras
at that point.
Shukla, whose 10-ball innings included a couple of sixes, scored 17.
Fifteen balls after Saha’s dismissal, he was caught by Matthew Hayden.
Bollinger broke the 27-run stand.
Angelo Mathews, whose run-a-ball innings included three boundaries and a
couple of sixes, scored 48. Seven balls later, he was caught by Hayden. Muralitharan
broke the 10-run stand.
Ajit Agarkar, whose five-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored nine. He was unbeaten, as was Abdulla, who faced a ball, failing to get
off the mark.
CSK eventually conceded 20 extras. KKR scored 139 for the loss of eight
wickets off 20 overs.
Morkel, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 14.
Raina, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 18. He picked up a wicket,
as did Muralitharan and Jakati, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former
conceded 47, the latter conceded 23.
Bollinger bowled four overs, including a maiden. He conceded 15, picking
up a couple of wickets.
Ashwin, who bowled four overs, conceded 16. He picked up three scalps.

Vijay’s half-century – which included four boundaries and a couple of sixes
– came off 40 balls. He was unbeaten, as was Raina, who eventually conceded 78.
His 39-ball innings included 11 boundaries and three sixes.
KKR eventually conceded 15 extras. CSK, who scored 143 for the loss of a
wicket off 13.3 overs, won by nine wickets with nine wickets with 39 balls to spare.
Mathews and Shukla bowled a wicketless over apiece. While the former
conceded 15, the latter conceded nine.
Ashok Dinda, David and Agarkar bowled two wicketless overs apiece. They
conceded 25, 22, and 14, respectively.
Abdulla, who bowled 2.3 wicketless overs, conceded 21.
Gayle, who bowled three overs, conceded 35. He picked up the only wicket
to fall.
