On winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir, DD’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 45, and lost three wickets.
Virender Sehwag, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. Seven balls into
the match, he was caught by Reetinder Singh Sodhi. Irfan Pathan broke the four-run
stand.
The second-wicket pair put on 35. Gambhir, whose 12-ball innings included
five boundaries, scored 26. Sixteen balls later, Theron and Kumar Sangakkara, KXIP’s
skipper, ran him out.
The third-wicket pair put on a couple. David Warner, whose (Go)eleven-ball
innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. A couple of balls later,
Sangakkara (Ka)ran him out.
DD scored 50 off 6.4 overs (40 balls). KXIP had conceded 13 extras at
that point.
Paul Collingwood had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored four.
Twenty balls after Warner’s dismissal, Piyush Chawla, the player of the match,
broke the 14-run stand.
Daniel Vettori, who faced four balls, scored a couple. Fifteen balls
later, Chawla broke the eight-run stand.
Dinesh Karthik, whose 35-ball innings included a boundary, scored 17.
Twenty balls (Mahe)later, he was caught by Jayawardene. Pathan broke the 13-run

Rajat Bhatia, who faced five balls, scored a run. Ten balls later, he

scored 38. Twenty-six balls after Pathan’s dismissal, he was caught by Nehra.
Collingwood broke the 24-run stand.
KXIP scored 100 off 16.3 overs (99 balls). DD had conceded half-a-dozen extras
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Sangakkara, whose 30-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 33. Forty-one
balls after Jayawardene’s dismissal, Collingwood broke the 45-run stand.
Yuvraj, whose 25-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six,
scored 21. He was unbeaten, as was Adrian Barath, who faced five balls, scoring
a couple.
KXIP, who scored 112 for the loss of three wickets off 18.4 overs, win by
seven wickets with 10 balls to spare.
Sehwag bowled a wicketless over, conceding three.
Bhatia, Maharoof and Nehra bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece. They
conceded 19, 16, and eight, respectively.
Vettori bowled 3.4 wicketless overs, conceding 27.
Mishra bowled four overs, conceding 15. He picked up a wicket.
Collingwood bowled four overs, conceding 19. He picked up a couple of scalps.
