On winning the toss, Anil Kumble, RCB’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 61, without the loss of
a wicket.
KKR’s openers put on 50 off five overs (30 balls). RCB had conceded a couple
of extras at that point. While the contribution of Sourav Ganguly, KKR’s
skipper, to the partnership was 15, Chris Gayle’s contribution to it was 34.
Gayle, whose 15-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six,
didn’t add to the aforementioned score. Thirty-two balls into the match, he was
caught by Rahul Dravid. Jacques Kallis broke the 52-run partnership.
KKR scored 100 off 10.5 overs (65 balls). RCB had conceded nine extras
at that point.
The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 35 balls. While Ganguly’s contribution
to the partnership was 17, Brendon McCullum’s contribution to it was 26. Extras’

Ganguly, whose 32-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as
