CSK (Shar)made four changes to their playing eleven – George Bailey,
Murali Vijay, Ravichandran Ashwin and Sudeep Tyagi made way for Mahendra Singh
Dhoni (who was leading the team), Thisara Perera, Joginder and Sudeep Tyagi.
On winning the toss, Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s skipper and the player of
the match, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 51, and lost a couple
of wickets.
Parthiv Patel, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight.
Twenty balls into the match, Ryan McLaren broke the 32-run stand.
Matthew Hayden, whose 12-ball innings included four boundaries, scored
20. Ten balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Harbhajan Singh, who
broke the six-run stand.
CSK scored 50 off 5.4 overs (34 balls). MI had conceded five extras at
that point.
The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 32 balls. While Suresh Raina’s
contribution to the partnership was 42, Subramaniam Badrinath’s contribution to
it was seven. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.
CSK scored 100 off 11.4 overs (71 balls). MI had conceded nine extras at
that point.
Raina’s half-century – which included four boundaries and a couple of
sixes – came off 32 balls.

Raina, whose 52-ball innings included seven boundaries and three sixes,
eventually scored 83. He was unbeaten, as was Badrinath, who eventually faced
45 balls, scoring 55.
MI eventually conceded 14 extras. CSK scored 180 for the loss of a
couple of wickets off 20 overs.
Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.
Zaheer Khan, Dwayne Bravo and Lasith Malinga were wicketless. They
conceded 45, 42, and 41, respectively.
Harbhajan and McLaren picked up a wicket apiece. While the former
conceded 25, the latter conceded 23.

leg be‘four’ wicket by Muttiah Muralitharan, who broke the run-a-ball stand.
MI scored 100 off 10.5 overs (66 balls). CSK had conceded 13 extras at
that point.
Rajagopal Sathish, who faced nine balls, scored just five. Twenty-three
balls after Tiwary’s dismissal, Sharma broke the 24-run stand.
Tendulkar’s half-century – which included four boundaries and a six –
came off 40 balls.
MI scored 150 off 16 overs (97 balls). CSK had conceded 14 extras at
that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Kieron Pollard, whose nine-ball innings included three boundaries and a
six, scored 20. Twenty balls after Sathish’s dismissal, Muralitharan broke the
39-run stand.
Tendulkar, whose 52-ball innings included eight boundaries and a six,
eventually scored 72. Ten balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Lakshmipathy
Balaji broke the 13-run stand.
Although he was unbeaten, Bravo, whose innings included a six, had no
reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored 11.
McLaren, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.
MI, who scored 181 for the loss of five wickets off 19 overs, lost by
five wickets with an over to spare.
Perera, who bowled an over, conceded 19. He was unbeaten, as was Albie
Morkel, who bowled four overs, conceding 26.
Sharma, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 23. He picked up a
wicket, as did Balaji and Jakati, who bowled four overs each. While the former
conceded 47, the latter conceded 32.
Muralitharan, who bowled four overs, conceded 32. He picked up a couple
of scalps.
