Warne-led RR beat Hyderabad comfortably

RR made one change to their playing (Pate)eleven – Munaf made way for Sumit Narwal.

DC made one change to their playing eleven – Mohnish Mishra made way for V V S Laxman.

On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, DC’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 55, and lost a couple of wickets.

Gilchrist, who faced three balls, scored a run. Four balls into the match, he was caught by Yusuf Pathan, the player of the match. Narwal broke the two-run stand.

Laxman, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary, scored 10. Twenty-eight balls later, he was caught by Pathan. Shaun Tait broke the 38-run stand.

DC scored 50 off 5.2 overs (32 balls). RR had conceded five extras at that point.

Herschelle Gibbs, whose 14-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 25. A dozen balls later, he was stumped by Naman Ojha. Shane Warne, RR’s skipper, broke the 18-run stand.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 13. Andrew Symonds, whose 14-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 22. Nine balls (Jhunjhunwa)later, Abhishek and Warne ran him out.

Tirumalasetti Suman, who faced 15 balls, scored nine. Twenty-six balls later, Tait broke the 28-run stand.

DC scored 100 off 12.3 overs (75 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave RR no reason to be in seventh heaven.

The sixth-wicket pair put on four. Venugopal Rao, who faced five balls, scored a couple. Half-a-dozen balls after Suman’s dismissal, Jhunjhunwala ran him out.

The seventh-wicket pair put on 25. Chaminda Vaas, who faced 13 balls, scored eight. Twenty-seven balls later, Paras Dogra ran him out.

Rahul Sharma, whose five-ball innings included a six, scored 10. Five balls later, he was caught by Jhunjhunwala. Narwal broke the 10-run stand.

Rohit Sharma, whose 35-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and three sixes, scored 49. Five balls later, he was caught by Lumb. Tait broke the nine-run stand.

Rudra Pratap Singh, who faced four balls, scored a run. He was unbeaten, as was Pragyan Ojha, who didn’t face a ball.

RR eventually conceded 11 extras. DC scored 148 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs.

Jhunjhunwala, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 16.

Pathan and Adam Voges bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 12, the latter conceded nine.

The first Powerplay of RR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 54, without the loss of a wicket.

RR’s openers put on 50 off five overs (30 balls). DC had conceded four extras at that point. While Lumb’s contribution to the partnership was 34, Ojha’s contribution to it was 13.

Naman, whose 17-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 14. Thirty-nine balls into the chase, he was (Gilchri)stumped. Pragyan broke the 55-run partnership.

RR scored 100 off 11 overs (66 balls). DC had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 46. Lumb, whose 32-ball innings included seven boundaries, eventually scored 45. Twenty-nine balls after Naman’s dismissal, Rudra Pratap and Gilchrist ran him out.

Pathan’s half-century – which included a couple of boundaries and five sixes – came off 23 balls.

RR scored 150 off 15.4 overs (94 balls). In fact, they scored 151 for the loss of a couple of wickets, winning by eight wickets with 26 balls to spare. DC had conceded 11 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.
