KKR made five changes to their playing eleven – Owais Shah, Cheteshwar
Pujara, Murali Kartik, Harpreet Singh and Ishant (Shar)made way for Manoj
Tiwary (the player of the match), David Hussey, Ajit Agarkar, Ashok Dinda and
Iqbal Abdulla.
On winning the toss, Sourav Ganguly, KKR’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 50, and lost a couple
of wickets.
Chris Gayle, whose 12-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 14.
Seventeen balls into the match, he was caught by Manvinder Bisla. Shalabh
Srivastava broke the 28-run stand.
Mandeep Singh had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored four.
His runs came by way of a boundary. Thirteen balls later, he was caught by Lee.
Srivastava broke the 17-run stand.
KKR scored 50 off 5.5 overs (37 balls). KXIP had conceded eight extras
at that point.
The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 39 balls. While Ganguly’s
contribution to the partnership was 24, Tiwary’s contribution to it was 22.
Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.
KKR scored 100 off 11.4 overs (72 balls). KXIP had conceded 11 extras at
that point.
Ganguly’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a
six – came off 37 balls.
He eventually faced 40 balls, failing to add to the aforementioned
score. Fifty-seven balls after Mandeep’s dismissal, he was caught by Piyush
Chawla. Irfan Pathan broke the 79-run partnership.
Tiwary’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries – came
off 37 balls.
He eventually scored 75 off 47 balls, which included eight boundaries
and a couple of sixes. He was unbeaten.
David Hussey, who faced five balls, scored three. Nine balls after
Ganguly’s dismissal, Chawla broke the six-run stand.
KKR scored 150 off 18 overs (110 balls). KXIP had conceded 18 extras at
that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Angelo Mathews, whose 11-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 19. Twenty balls after Hussey’s dismissal, he was caught by Lee. Pathan
broke the 33-run stand.
Wriddhiman Saha, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.
KKR scored 183 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.
Ravi Bopara, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 18.
Malik, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 18.
Lee, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 39.
Chawla, who bowled four overs, conceded 35. He picked up a wicket.
Srivastava, who bowled three overs, conceded 23. He picked up a couple
of scalps, as did Pathan, who bowled four overs, conceding 42.

KXIP’s openers did not get off the mark. Bopara, who faced a couple of
balls, failed to open his account. A couple of balls into the chase, he was
trapped leg before wicket by Shane Bond.
Yuvraj Singh, whose 16-ball innings included three boundaries and a six,
scored 24. Thirty-two balls later, he was caught by Tiwary. Agarkar broke the
41-run stand.
KXIP scored 50 off seven overs (42 balls). KKR had conceded four extras
at that point.
Bisla, whose 24-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 22.
Eleven balls after Yuvraj’s dismissal, he was caught by Hussey. Agarkar broke
the 13-run stand.
Jayawardene, whose 15-ball innings included a boundary, scored 16.
Thirty-seven balls (Mahe)later, Mathews broke the 38-run stand.
Kumar Sangakkara, KXIP’s skipper, scored 30. His 27-ball innings
included three boundaries. Four balls later, he was stumped by Saha. Gayle
broke the six-run stand.
KXIP scored 100 off 14.4 overs (88 balls). KKR had conceded four extras
at that point.
Pathan, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 22.
Twenty-seven balls after Sangakkara’s dismissal, he was caught by Bond, who
broke the 37-run stand.
Goel, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 17.
He was unbeaten, as was Lee, who had no reason to be in seventh heaven, despite
the fact that his five-ball innings included a boundary.
KKR eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. KXIP, who scored 144 for
the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs, lost by 39 runs.
Hussey, who bowled an over, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he
was wicketless, as were Dinda and the left-arm spinner, who bowled a couple of
overs apiece. While the former conceded 19, the (Abdul)latter conceded a dozen.
Gayle bowled three overs, conceding 23. He picked up a wicket, as did
Mathews, who bowled four overs, conceding 26.
Agarkar and Bond bowled four overs each, picking up two scalps apiece.
While the former conceded 32, the latter conceded 24.
