CSK made three changes to their playing (Pat)eleven – Parthiv, Thisara
Perera and Lakshmipathy Balaji made way for Murali Vijay, Arun Karthik and
Thilan Thushara.
On winning the toss, Shane Warne, RR’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of RR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 58, and lost a wicket.
Michael Lumb, whose 16-ball innings included three boundaries and a
couple of sixes, scored 30. Four overs into the match, he was caught by
Thushara. Albie Morkel broke the 47-run partnership.
RR scored 50 off 5.1 overs (31 balls). CSK had conceded three extras at
that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.
The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 37 balls. While the contribution of
Naman Ojha, the player of the match, to the partnership was 34, Faiz Fazal’s contribution
to the partnership was 16. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.
RR scored 100 off 10.5 overs (65 balls).
Fazal, whose 18-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scored 17.
Seven overs after Lumb’s dismissal, he was caught by Vijay. Shadab Jakati broke
the 53-run partnership.
Yusuf Pathan, whose six-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight.
Ten balls later, he was caught by Suresh Raina. Jakati broke the 18-run stand.
Ojha’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a couple of
sixes – came off 32 balls.

Ojha, whose 49-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and five
sixes, eventually scored 80. Twenty-nine balls later, he was caught by Joginder
Sharma. Thushara broke the 38-run stand.
Adam Voges, whose 19-ball innings included a boundary, scored 20. Five
balls later, he was caught by Muttiah Muralitharan. Needless to say, Morkel was
in seventh heaven.
The sixth-wicket pair put on a dozen. Paras Dogra, whose three-ball innings
included a boundary, scored five. Half-a-dozen balls later, Mahendra Singh
Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, and Thushara ran him out.
The seventh-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Abhishek Jhunjhunwala,
whose six-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 11. The next
ball, he was caught by Vijay off the bowling of Thushara.
Sumit Narwal, who faced a couple of balls, scored as many. He was
unbeaten.
The eighth-wicket pair put on a run. Warne didn’t face a ball. The next
ball, Jakati and Dhoni ran him out.
Tait, who faced a ball, scored a run. He waS(ha)unbeaten.
RR scored 177 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs.
Sharma and Raina bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece. While the
former conceded 23, the latter conceded 15.
Muralitharan, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 34.
Morkel, Jakati and Thushara bowled four overs each, picking up a couple
of wickets apiece. While the former conceded 46, 30, and 28, respectively.

Karthik, who faced five balls, scored three. He was unbeaten, as was

RR eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. CSK, who scored 160 for the
loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs, lost by 17 runs.
Voges bowled a wicketless over, conceding eight.
Narwal bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 49.
Siddharth Trivedi bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 18.
Warne and Pathan bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece.
While the former conceded 34, the latter conceded 26.
