Tendulkar-led MI beat ‘hosts’ Hyderabad

DC made three Ch(amind)anges to their playing eleven – V V S Laxman, Vaas and Rahul (Shar)made way for Mohnish Mishra, Jaskaran Singh and Kemar Roach.

MI made one change to their playing eleven – Aditya Tare made way for Ambati Rayudu.

On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, DC’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 52, and lost a wicket.

Shikhar Dhawan, who faced a dozen balls, scored eight. His runs came by way of boundaries. Twenty-three balls into the match, he was trapped leg before wicket by Jaskaran Singh, who broke the 24-run stand.

MI scored 50 off half-a-dozen overs (38 balls). DC had conceded four extras at that point.

Dwayne, whose 16-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 23. Twenty-four balls after Dhawan’s dismissal, he was caught by Andrew Symonds. Rudra Pratap Singh Br(av)oke the 40-run stand.

Saurabh Tiwary, who faced three balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Three balls later, he was caught by Gilchrist. Rudra Pratap broke the four-run stand.

Rayudu had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored half-a-dozen. Sixteen balls later, he was (Gilchri)stumped. Pragyan Ojha broke the run-a-ball stand.

Rajagopal Sathish, who faced five balls, scored three. Nine balls later, he was caught by Tirumalasetti Suman. Ojha broke the eight-run stand.

Kieron Pollard, who faced five balls, scored a run. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Suman. Jaskaran broke the one-run stand.

MI scored 100 off 15 overs (92 balls). DC had conceded eight extras at that point.

Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s skipper, scored a half-century off 41 balls, which included eight boundaries.

He eventually scored 55 off 43 balls, which included nine boundaries. Twenty-one balls after Pollard’s dismissal, he was caught by Gilchrist. Rudra Pratap broke the 26-run stand.

MI scored 150 off 18.5 overs (115 balls). DC had conceded eight extras at that point.

The eighth-wicket pair put on 50 off 19 balls. While Ryan McLaren’s contribution to the partnership was a run, the contribution of Harbhajan Singh, the player of the match, to it was 48. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

McLaren, whose 15-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scored 13. He was unbeaten, as was Harbhajan, who eventually scored 49. His 18-ball innings included eight boundaries and a couple of sixes.

DC eventually conceded 10 extras. MI scored 172 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs.

Rohit Sharma, who bowled an over, conceded 14. He was wicketless, as were Symonds and Roach, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 40, the latter conceded 32.

Jaskaran, who bowled three overs, conceded 30. He picked up a couple of wickets, as did Ojha, who bowled four overs, conceding 24.

Rudra Pratap, who bowled four overs, conceded 31. He picked up three scalps.

Herschelle Gibbs, whose 16-ball innings included three boundaries and a couple of sixes, scored 27. Twenty-seven balls later, he was caught by Pollard. Zaheer Khan broke the 47-run stand.

Mishra, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 13. Three balls later, he was caught by McLaren. Lasith Malinga broke the two-run stand.

Symonds, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored a run. Four balls later, he was caught by Bravo. Malinga broke the one-run stand.

DC scored 50 off 5.5 overs (35 balls). MI had conceded nine extras at that point.

Suman, whose 17-ball innings included a six, scored 15. Twenty-eight balls later, he was caught by Harbhajan, who broke the 31-run stand.

DC scored 100 off 13 overs (78 balls). MI had conceded 11 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Although his nine-ball innings included a boundary, Venugopal Rao had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 15 balls after Suman’s dismissal, he was caught by McLaren. Pollard broke the 19-run stand.

Jaskaran, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Eight balls later, he was caught by the substitute, Jean-Paul Duminy. Harbhajan broke the 16-run stand.

Rohit, whose 28-ball innings included three boundaries and a couple of sixes, scored 45. Thirteen balls later, Khan broke the 14-run stand.

Roach, whose nine-ball innings included a boundary, scored 10. A couple of balls later, Khan broke the one-run stand.

The last-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Rudra Pratap, who faced five balls, scored a run. Four balls later, he was dismissed by Malinga.

Ojha, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.

DC, who were dismissed for 131 off 17.4 overs, lost by 41 runs.

Bravo, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 16. He was wicketless, as was McLaren, who bowled three overs, conceding 24.

Pollard, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 20. He picked up a wicket.

Khan, who bowled three overs, conceded 21. He picked up three wickets.

Malinga, who bowled 3.4 overs, conceded a dozen. He picked up three wickets.

Harbhajan, who bowled four overs, conceded 31. He picked up three scalps.
