Gambhir returns; DD beat Kolkata

DD made three changes to their playing eleven – A B de Villiers, Mithun Manhas and Pradeep Sangwan made way for Gautam Gambhir (who was leading the team, and chose to bat on winning the toss), Paul Collingwood and Rajat Bhatia.

KKR made no changes to their playing eleven.

The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 62, and lost three wickets.

Virender Sehwag, who faced three balls, scored eight. His runs came by way of boundaries. Saha balls into the match, he was stumped by Wriddhiman. Chris Gayle broke the nine-run stand.

Gambhir, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. An over later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Charl Langeveldt, who broke the 12-run stand.

Dinesh Karthik, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the (Shar)mark. An over later, Ishant broke the 17-run stand.

DD scored 50 off 4.4 overs (28 balls). KKR had conceded three extras at that point.

David Warner, the player of the match, scored a half-century off 29 balls, which included seven boundaries and a couple of sixes.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 100 off 78 balls. While Warner’s contribution to the partnership was 67, Collingwood’s contribution to it was 32. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

DD scored 100 off 11.3 overs (69 balls). KKR had conceded three extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 37 balls. While Warner’s contribution to the partnership was 36, Collingwood’s contribution to it was 14. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

DD scored 150 off 18.2 overs (111 balls). KKR had conceded four extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Collingwood’s half-century – which included three boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 43 balls.

He eventually scored 53 off 45 balls. Ninety-nine balls after Karthik’s dismissal, he was caught by David Hussey. Langeveldt broke the 128-run stand.

Warner’s ton – which included nine boundaries and four sixes – came off 66 balls.

Warner eventually scored 107 off 69 balls, which included the aforementioned number of boundaries, in addition to five sixes. He was unbeaten, as was Kedar Jadhav, who faced a ball, scoring a boundary.

DD scored 177 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.

Ajit Agarkar and Angelo Mathews bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 26, the latter conceded 11.

Murali Kartik and Hussey bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 26, the latter conceded 24.

Sharma, who bowled an over, conceded 17. He picked up a wicket, as did Gayle, who bowled four overs, conceding 38.

Langeveldt, who bowled three overs, conceded 35. He picked up a couple of scalps.

Sourav Ganguly, KKR’s skipper, scored five. His 10-ball innings included a boundary. Seventeen balls into the chase, Dirk Nannes broke the 19-run stand.

Mandeep Singh, who faced four balls, didn’t open his account. Five balls later, he was stumped by Karthik. Amit Mishra broke the one-run stand.

Manoj Tiwary, who faced three balls didn’t get off the mark. Four balls later, Andrew McDonald broke the one-run stand.

KKR scored 50 off 7.5 overs (47 balls). DD had conceded four extras at that point.

Gayle, whose 21-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 30. Twenty-three balls after Tiwary’s dismissal, he was caught by Mishra. Bhatia broke the 29-run stand.

Hussey, whose 32-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 29. Thirty-two balls later, he was caught by Gambhir. Umesh Yadav broke the 35-run stand.

KKR scored 100 off 15.1 overs (91 balls). DD had conceded eight extras at that point.

Mathews, whose 18-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 24. Eleven balls after Hussey’s dismissal, Yadav broke the 17-run stand.

Saha, whose 17-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 20. He was unbeaten.

Agarkar, whose 13-ball innings included a boundary, scored 17. Twenty-two balls later, he was caught by Collingwood, who broke the 32-run stand.

The eighth-wicket pair put on three. Kartik, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Five balls later, Karthik ran him out.

The ninth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Langeveldt, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was dismissed by McDonald.

DD eventually conceded 11 extras. KKR, who scored 137 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs, lost by 40 runs.

Collingwood, who bowled five balls, had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he picked up a wicket.

Nannes, who bowled 3.1 overs, conceded 15. He picked up a wicket.

Bhatia and Mishra bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 28, the latter conceded 18.
