Tendulkar shines; MI trounce Bangalore

Neither RCB nor MI made any changes to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 24, and lost a couple of wickets.

RCB’s openers didn’t get off the mark. Mayank Agarwal, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. A ball into the match, he was dismissed by Lasith Malinga.

Virat Kohli, whose 19-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored a dozen. Twenty-six balls later, he was caught by Davy Jacobs. Kieron Pollard broke the 19-run stand.  

RCB scored 50 off 10 overs (60 balls). MI had conceded five extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off as many balls. While the contributions of both Tillakaratne Dilshan and A B de Villiers to the partnership were 24 apiece. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

RCB scored 100 off 16 overs (96 balls). MI had conceded 13 extras at that point.

De Villiers, 36-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, eventually scored 38. Seventy-four balls after Kohli’s dismissal, he was caught by Pollard, who broke the 91-run partnership.

Asad Pathan, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. Four balls later, Malinga broke the two-run stand.

Dilshan’s half-century – which included four boundaries and a six – came off 49 balls.

He scored 59 off 52 balls, which included the aforementioned number of boundaries, in addition to a couple of sixes. He was unbeaten.

Saurabh Tiwary, whose innings included three boundaries, scored 16. He was unbea‘ten’.

MI eventually conceded 15 extras. RCB scored 140 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.

James Franklin, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded nine.

Munaf Patel, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 10.

Harbhajan Singh and Ali Murtaza bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 27, the latter conceded 26.

Malinga and Pollard bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of scalps apiece. While the former conceded 32, the latter conceded 25.

Jacobs, whose 16-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 22. Twenty-six balls into the chase, Dirk Nannes broke the 33-run stand.

MI scored 50 off 7.2 overs (44 balls). RCB had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 42 balls. While Tendulkar’s contribution to the partnership was 27, Ambati Rayudu’s contribution to it was 24. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

MI scored 100 off 13.1 overs (80 balls). RCB had conceded three extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

While Rayudu’s half-century – which included eight boundaries – came off 41 balls, Tendulkar’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries – came off 42 balls.

The second-wicket pair put on 100 off 79 balls. While Tendulkar’s contribution to the partnership was 42, Rayudu’s contribution to it was 57. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Tendulkar, whose 46-ball innings included seven boundaries, eventually scored 55. He was unbeaten, as was Rayudu, who eventually scored 63. His 50-ball innings included nine boundaries.

Dilshan, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded a dozen.

Kohli, who bowled two wicketless overs, conceded 15.

Abhimanyu Mithun, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 31.

Pathan, who bowled 3.3 wicketless overs, conceded 30.

Zaheer Khan and Daniel Vettori, RCB’s skipper, bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 36, the latter conceded 18.

Nannes, who bowled an over, conceded a run. He picked up the only wicket to fall.
