Delhi lose to Gambhir-led KKR

DD made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Matthew Wade and Ashok Dinda made way for Travis Birt and Ajit Agarkar.

KKR made three changes to their playing eleven – Brad Haddin, Shakib Al Hasan and Rajat Bhatia made way for Shreevats Goswami, Ryan ten Doeschate and Brett Lee.

On winning the toss, Virender Sehwag, DD’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 42, and lost a wicket.

Jacques Kallis, whose run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 11. Twenty-seven balls into the match, Irfan Pathan broke the 29-run stand.

KKR scored 50 off seven overs (42 balls). DD had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Shreevats Goswami, whose 20-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 22. Ten balls after Kallis’ dismissal, he was caught by Naman Ojha. Agarkar broke the 13-run stand.

Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, scored 18 off 19 balls, which included a couple of boundaries. Thirty-four balls later, he was caught by Venugopal Rao. James Hopes broke the 40-run stand.

KKR scored 100 off 14.2 overs (86 balls). DD had conceded five extras at that point.

Yusuf Pathan, who faced eight balls, scored five. Eighteen balls after Gambhir’s dismissal, he was caught by Irfan. Umesh Yadav broke the 23-run stand.

The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Eoin Morgan, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was caught by Ojha off the bowling of Yadav.

Manoj Tiwary won the player of the match award. His half-century – which included a couple of boundaries and three sixes – came off 37 balls.

He eventually scored 61 off 47 balls, and was unbeaten.

Ten Doeschate, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 19. Four overs after Morgan’s dismissal, he was caught by Irfan. Morkel broke the 35-run stand.

The seventh-wicket pair put on five. Lee, who faced a ball, scored a run. Five balls later, Yogesh Nagar and Ojha ran him out.

Lakshmipathy Balaji, who faced a ball, scored three. He was unbeaten.

DD eventually conceded eight extras. KKR scored 148 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Morkel, Agarkar, Hopes and Irfan picked up a wicket apiece. They conceded 42, 34, 25 and 16, respectively.

Yadav, who conceded 29, picked up a couple of scalps.

DD scored 50 off as many overs (8.2 overs). KKR had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Irfan, whose 12-ball innings included a six, scored nine. Twenty-three balls after Sehwag’s dismissal, he was caught by ten Doeschate. Iqbal Abdulla broke the 18-run stand.

Birt, who faced 11 balls, scored eight. Sixteen balls later, he was caught by the substitute (Shakib). Yusuf broke the 14-run stand.

Hopes, whose 30-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 25. Seven balls later, he was caught by Tiwary. Abdulla broke the eight-run stand.

Ojha, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Three balls later, he was caught by Lee. Abdulla broke the two-run stand.

DD scored 100 off 16.1 overs (97 balls). KKR had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

The seventh-wicket pair put on 38. Rao, whose 18-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 19. Twenty-seven balls later, Goswami and Lee ran him out.

The eighth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Nagar, whose 12-ball innings included a couple of sixes, scored 19. The next ball, he was caught by Goswami off the bowling of Balaji.

The ninth-wicket pair had no reason to be in seventh heaven – Agarkar didn’t face a ball. Eight balls later, Balaji and Lee ran him out.

Morkel, whose five-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. He was unbeaten, as was Yadav, who faced a ball, scoring a run.

The number of extras they eventually conceded gave KKR no reason to be in seventh heaven. DD, who scored 131 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs, lost by 17 runs.

Kallis bowled two overs, conceded 11. He was wicketless, as was Lee, who bowled four overs, conceding 24.

Yusuf bowled two overs, conceded half-a-dozen. He picked up a wicket, as was Unadkat, who bowled four overs, conceding 24.

Balaji, who bowled four overs, conceded 38. He picked up a couple of wickets.

Abdulla, who bowled four overs, conceded 25. He picked up three scalps.
