Kochi trounced by Sangakkara-led DC

KTK made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – V V S Laxman and Muttiah Muralitharan made way for Brendon McCullum and Sreesanth.

DC made one change to their playing eleven – Pragyan Ojha made way for Manpreet Gony.

On winning the toss, Mahela Jayawardene, KTK’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 20, and lost three wickets.

Sunny Sohal scored a run. An over into the match, he was trapped leg be‘four’ wicket by Rudra Pratap Singh, who broke the three-run stand.

Shikhar Dhawan, who faced nine balls, scored four. Eight balls later, he was caught by Raiphi Gomez. Rudra Pratap broke the three-run stand.

Bharat Chipli, who faced 10 balls, scored four. Eighteen balls later, he was caught by Sreesanth. Vinay Kumar broke the 14-run stand.

DC scored 50 off 11.3 overs (71 balls). KTK had conceded four extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 46 balls. While the contribution of Kumar Sangakkara, DC’s skipper, to the partnership was 29, Cameron White’s contribution to it was 22. Extras hadn’t conceded any extras at that point.

Sangakkara’s half-century – which included eight boundaries – came off 39 balls.

DC scored 100 off 15.4 overs (96 balls). KTK had conceded five extras at that point.

White, whose 34-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and the only six of the innings, eventually scored 31. Seventy-one balls after Chipli’s dismissal, he was caught by Jayawardene. Vinay broke the 90-run partnership.

The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Sangakkara, whose 47-ball innings included 10 boundaries, eventually scored 65. The next ball, he was caught by Parthiv Patel off the bowling of Vinay.

Christian, who faceD(ani)eleven balls, scored nine. Seventeen balls later, Thisara Perera broke the run-a-ball stand.

Dwaraka Ravi Teja, whose five-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. He was unbeaten.

The seventh-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Amit Mishra, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, Patel and Perera ran him out.

Gony, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. He was unbeaten.

The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave KTK no reason to be in seventh heaven. DC scored 129 for the loss of seven wickets at that point.

Gomez, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded four.

Ravindra Jadeja, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 25.

Sreesanth bowled four wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 22.

Perera, who bowled four overs, conceded 30. He picked up a wicket.

Rudra Pratap, who bowled four overs, conceded 21. He picked up a couple of scalps.

Vinay, who bowled four overs, conceded 25. He picked up three scalps.

KTK’s openers didn’t get off the mark. Brendon McCullum, who faced four balls, didn’t open his account. Four balls into the chase, he was caught by Sangakkara off the bowling of Dale Steyn.

Parthiv Patel, who faced three balls, didn’t off the (Shar)mark. Four balls later, he was caught by Sangakkara. Ishant, the player of the match, broke the one-run stand.

The third-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Gomez, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was dismissed by Ishant.

Brad Hodge, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. A couple of balls later, Ishant broke the one-run stand.

Kedar Jadhav, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. Eight balls later, he was trapped leg be‘four’ wicket by Ishant.

Jayawardene, who faced eight balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Five balls later, he was caught by Sangakkara. Ishant broke the run-a-ball stand.    

KTK scored 50 off 11.2 overs (68 balls). DC had conceded five extras at that point.

Perera, whose 23-ball innings included four balls, scored 22. Forty balls after Jayawardene’s dismissal, he was caught by White. Gony broke the 36-run stand.

Jadeja, whose 35-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 23. Thirty balls later, he was caught by Christian. Mishra broke the 26-run stand.

Vinay, whose 19-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 18. Four balls later, Steyn broke the one-run stand.

Sreesanth, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. He was unbeaten.

The last-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Rudra Pratap, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. A ball after Vinay’s dismissal, he was dismissed by Steyn.

The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave DC no reason to be in seventh heaven. KTK, who were bundled out for 74 off 16.3 overs, won by 55 runs.

Christian, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded a dozen.

Gony, who bowled three overs, conceded 19. He picked up a wicket, as did Mishra, who bowled four overs, conceding a dozen.

Steyn bowled 3.3 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 16, picking up three wickets.

Ishant, who bowled three overs, conceded a dozen. He picked up five scalps.
