PWI made three changes to their playing eleven – Tim Paine, Wayne Parnell
and Shrikant Wagh made way for Manish Pandey, Nathan McCullum and Jerome Taylor.
On winning the toss, Yuvraj Singh, PWI’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 45, without the loss of
a wicket.
CSK’s openers put on 50 off 7.1 overs (43 balls). PWI had conceded an
extra at that point. While Murali Vijay’s contribution to the partnership was
29, the contribution of Michael Hussey, the player of the match, to it was 24.
Vijay, whose 29-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, eventually
scored 31. Fifty-eight balls into the match, he was caught by McCullum. Alfonso
Thomas broke the 64-run partnership.
Suresh Raina, who faced four balls, scored a couple. Four balls later, Thomas
broke the two-run stand.
CSK put on 100 off 15.1 overs (91 balls). PWI had conceded an extra at
that point.
Hussey’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a six – came off
42 balls.
The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 39 balls. While Hussey’s contribution
to the partnership was 25, the contribution of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s
skipper, to it was 26. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.
Dhoni, whose 21-ball (Rob)innings included a couple of boundaries and a
six, eventually scored 26. Forty balls after Raina’s dismissal, he was stumped
by Uthappa. Rahul Sharma broke the 52-run partnership.
Hussey, whose 48-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, in
addition to the six, eventually scored 61. Four balls later, he was caught by
Pandey. Taylor broke the run-a-ball stand.
Albie Morkel, who faced four balls, didn’t get off the mark. A couple of
balls later, he was caught by Jesse Ryder. Taylor broke the one-run stand.
Subramaniam Badrinath, whose seven-ball innings included a six, scored
11. He was unbeaten.
Srikkanth Anirudha had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored as
many. Fourteen balls after Morkel’s dismissal, he was caught by Uthappa. Taylor
broke the 19-run stand.
PWI eventually conceded four extras. CSK scored 142 for the loss of
half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.
Yuvraj and McCullum bowled a couple of wicketless overs each. While the
former conceded 14, the latter conceded a dozen.
Murali Kartik, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 29.
Rahul, who bowled four overs, conceded 27. He picked up a wicket.
Thomas, who bowled four overs, conceded 29. He picked up a couple of
wickets.
Taylor, who bowled four overs, conceded 30. He picked up three scalps.

Mithun Manhas, whose 23-ball innings included a six, scored 20. Forty-three
balls after Uthappa’s dismissal, he was caught by Dhoni. Doug Bollinger broke
the 38-run stand.

34. Thirty-four balls after Manhas’ dismissal, he was caught by Jakati. Morkel
broke the 31-run stand.
The seventh-wicket pair put on a run. Rahul, who faced a ball, scored a
run. Three balls later, Dhoni ran him out.
The eighth-wicket pair put on four. Taylor, who faced a ball, scored a
couple. Three balls later, the substitute, Abhinav Mukund ran him out.
The ninth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. McCullum, who faced 16
balls, scored 15. The next ball, he was caught by Jakati off the bowling of
Bollinger.
Both Kartik and Thomas faced a couple of balls, scoring a run, apiece,
and were unbeaten.
The number of extras they eventually conceded gave CSK no reason to be
in seventh heaven. PWI, who scored 117 for the loss of nine wickets off 20
overs, lost by 25 runs.
Jakati and Raina bowled a couple of wicketless overs each. While the
former conceded a dozen, the latter conceded 11.
Suraj Randiv bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 23.
Bollinger bowled four overs, conceding 20. He picked up two wickets.
Ashwin bowled four overs, including a maiden. He conceded 19, picked up two
wickets.
