Rain, Jayawardene-led KTK disappoint Chennai

Rain reduced this match to a 17-overs-a-side match.

KTK made no changes to their playing eleven.

CSK made one change to their playing eleven – Suraj Randiv made way for Doug Bollinger.

On winning the toss, Mahela Jayawardene, KTK’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 42, and lost a wicket.

Hussey, who faced eight balls, scored 10. His runs came by way of boundaries. Fourteen balls into the match, he was caught by Parthiv Patel. Rudra Pratap Singh broke the (Micha)eleven-run stand.

Murali Vijay, whose 18-ball innings included six boundaries, scored 28. Thirty balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Thisara Perera, who broke the 37-run stand.

CSK scored 50 off 7.5 overs (47 balls). KTK had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Nine overs into the match, there was an interruption due to rain, which resulted in a wet ground. CSK had conceded 65 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Suresh Raina was batting on 23, Subramaniam Badrinath was batting on four.

Badrinath, whose 17-ball innings included a boundary, scored 19. Thirty-six balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Raiphi Gomez, who broke the 48-run stand.

CSK scored 100 off 13.5 overs (83 balls). KTK had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Raina’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a six – came off 39 balls.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 13. He faced 50 balls, failing to add to the aforementioned score. Eleven balls after Badrinath’s dismissal, Perera ran him out.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, scored 14 off 13 balls, which included a boundary and a six. He was unbeaten, as was Albie Morkel, who scored nine. His four-ball innings included a six.

KTK eventually conceded three extras. CSK scored 131 for the loss of four wickets off 17 overs.

Ravindra Jadeja, who bowled an over, conceded 14. He was wicketless, as were Ramesh Powar and Vinay Kumar, who bowled three overs apiece. While the former conceded 24, the latter conceded 16.

Gomez, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 20. He picked up a wicket, as did Perera and Rudra Pratap, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 32, the latter conceded 24.

KTK’s target was revised to 135 off 17 overs.

Jayawardene, whose 11-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 16. Twenty-seven balls into the chase, he was caught by Srikkanth Anirudha. Ravichandran Ashwin broke the 39-run stand.

KTK scored 50 off 6.2 overs (38 balls). CSK had conceded an extra at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 32 balls. While the contributions of both Brendon McCullum and Patel to the partnership were 25 apiece, extras’ contribution to it was one.

McCullum, whose 33-ball innings included four boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 47. Thirty-six balls after Jayawardene’s dismissal, he was caught by Morkel. Ashwin broke the 51-run partnership.  

KTK scored 100 off 11.2 overs (68 balls). CSK had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Patel, whose 26-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually scored 34. Fifteen balls after McCullum’s dismissal, he was caught by Anirudha. Bollinger broke the 20-run stand.

Brad Hodge, whose 14-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 19. He was unbeaten, as was Jadeja, who scored 16. His six-ball innings included a couple of sixes.

CSK eventually conceded three extras. KTK, who scored 135 for the loss of three wickets off 15 overs, won by seven wickets with a couple of overs to spare under the Duckworth/Lewis method.

Morkel, who bowled two overs, conceded 17. He was wicketless, as were Tim Southee and Shadab Jakati, who bowled three overs apiece. While the former conceded 38, the latter conceded 30.

Bollinger, who bowled three overs, conceded 18. He picked up a wicket.
