KXIP made one changes to their playing eleven – Shaun Marsh made way for
Dimitri Mascarenhas.
On winning the toss, Sourav Ganguly, PWI’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of PWI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 38, and lost
a couple of wickets.
Ganguly, whose 18-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 20.
Four overs into the match, he was caught by Paul Valthaty. Mascarenhas broke
the 28-run stand.
The second-wicket pair put on four. Ryder, whose run-a-ball innings included
a boundary, scored eight. Five balls later, Praveen Kumar ran him out.
PWI scored 50 off 7.3 overs (45 balls). KXIP had conceded five extras at
that point.
The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 39 balls. While the contribution of Marlon
Samuels, the player of the match, to the partnership was 32, Robin Uthappa’s contribution
to it was 15. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.
PWI scored 100 off 14 overs (84 balls). KXIP had conceded nine extras at
that point.
Samuels, whose 39-ball innings included four boundaries and a couple of
sixes, eventually scored 46. Sixty-one balls after Ryder’s dismissal, Harmeet
Singh broke the 81-run partnership.
Callum Ferguson, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored three. Nine balls
later, he was caught by Harmeet, who broke the eight-run stand.
Uthappa, whose 33-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as
many sixes, eventually scored 40. Eleven balls later, Harmeet broke the
run-a-ball stand.

Steven, whose 12-ball innings included three sixes, scored 25. Eight

scored a dozen. He was unbeaten, as was Rahul, who faced a couple of balls,

Piyush Chawla, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 14.
Bipul Sharma, who bowled 2.4 wicketless overs, conceded 40.
Praveen, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 27.
Faulkner and Mascarenhas bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket
apiece. While the former conceded 31, the latter conceded 23.
Harmeet, who bowled 3.2 overs, conceded 24. He picked up three scalps.

scored half-a-dozen off 11 balls, which included a boundary. Seven balls later,

Mandeep Singh, whose 23-ball innings included three boundaries, scored
24. Thirty-nine balls after Gilchrist’s dismissal, he was caught by Uthappa.

Abhishek Nayar, whose 28-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 24. Nineteen balls later, he was caught by Ganguly. Nehra broke the
25-run stand.
David Hussey, whose 17-ball innings included a six, scored 18. Seven
balls later, Rahul broke the nine-run stand.
Chawla, whose eight-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a
six, scored 16. Seven balls later, he was caught by Pandey. Rahul broke the

Chawla’s dismissal, he was caught by Ryder. Needless to say, Samuels was in
seventh heaven.

sixes, scored 35. He was unbeaten.
Faulkner, who faced four balls, scored three. Fourteen balls after Mascarenhas’
dismissal, he was caught by Ganguly. Dinda broke the 25-run stand.
Praveen, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. He was unbeaten.
PWI eventually conceded 11 extras. KXIP, who scored 144 for the loss of
eight wickets off 20 overs, lost by 22 runs.
Kartik, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 23.
Ryder, Nehra and Dinda bowled three overs each, picking up a wicket
apiece. They conceded 25, 20, and 13, respectively.
Samuels, who bowled four overs, conceded 23. He picked up a wicket.
Rahul, who bowled four overs, conceded 34. He picked up a couple of scalps.
