Dravid delighted; RR beat Kolkata

RR made no changes to their eleven.

KKR made one change to their eleven – Marchant de Lange made way for Sunil Narine.

On winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of RR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 37, and lost a wicket.

RR’s openers put on a run. Ajinkya Rahane, who faced four balls, didn’t get off the mark. Nine balls into the match, Gambhir ran him out.

The second-wicket pair put on 43. Rahul Dravid, RR’s skipper, scored 26 off 24 balls, which included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes. Thirty-one (Iq)balls later, Abdulla and Rajat Bhatia ran him out.

RR scored 50 off 7.4 overs (46 balls). KKR had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Shreevats Goswami, whose 18-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 23. A dozen balls after Dravid’s dismissal, Bhatia broke the 17-run stand.

RR scored 100 off 13.4 overs (82 balls). KKR had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 35 balls. While Ashok Menaria’s contribution to the partnership was 14, the contribution of Brad Hodge, the player of the match, to it was 38. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Hodge, whose 29-ball innings included three boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 44. Forty-five balls after Goswami’s dismissal, he was caught by Brendon McCullum. Brett Lee broke the 64-run partnership.

RR scored 150 off 18.2 overs (110 balls). KKR had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Menaria, whose 30-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually scored 40. Fifteen balls after Hodge’s dismissal, Lee broke the 27-run stand.

Owais Shah, whose 11-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 23. He was unbeaten, as was Kevon Cooper, who faced five balls, scoring as many.

KKR eventually conceded three extras. RR scored 164 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.

Yusuf Pathan and Abdulla bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 28, the latter conceded 16.

Jacques Kallis and Narine bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 35, the latter conceded 29.

Bhatia, who bowled four overs, conceded 27. He picked up a wicket.

Lee, who bowled four overs, conceded 29. He picked up a couple of scalps.

The third-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. McCullum scored a couple. The next ball, he was trapped leg be‘four’ wicket by Ankeet Chavan.

Debabrata Das, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary, scored 12. Twenty-one balls later, Cooper broke the 17-run stand.

KKR scored 50 off nine overs (54 balls). RR had conceded four extras at that point.

Pathan, whose 14-ball innings included a six, scored 15. Twenty-eight balls after Das’ dismissal, he was caught by Hodge. Siddharth Trivedi broke the 41-run stand.

Bhatia, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. A dozen balls later, he was caught by Trivedi, who broke the 11-run stand.

Laxmi Ratan, whose run-a-ball innings included a six, scored eight. Fourteen ballS(huk)later, he was caught by Shah. Chavan broke the 17-run stand.

KKR scored 100 off 16.1 overs (97 balls). RR had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Manoj Tiwary’s half-century – which included five boundaries – came off 42 balls.

Lee, whose 11-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 25. Twenty-two balls after Shukla’s dismissal, Cooper broke the 38-run stand.

The ninth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. The West Indian, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The (Nari)next ball, he was dismissed by Cooper.

Tiwary, whose 49-ball innings included seven boundaries, eventually scored 59. Nine balls later, Johan Botha broke the 10-run stand.

Abdulla, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

The number of extras they eventually conceded gave RR no reason to be in seventh heaven. KKR, who were dismissed for 142 off 20 overs, lost by 22 runs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Botha, who conceded 34, picked up a wicket.

Singh, Trivedi (whose spell included a maiden) and Chavan picked up two wickets apiece. They conceded 30, 25, and 23, respectively.

Cooper, who bowled 28, picked up three scalps.
