Gambhir-led KKR beat Pune comfortably

PWI made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Mithun Manhas and Mitchell Marsh made way for Sachin Rana and Alfonso Thomas.

KKR made three changes to their playing eleven – Eoin Morgan, Mark Boucher and Jaydev Unadkat made way for Shreevats Goswami, Ryan ten Doeschate and Shakib Al Hasan.

On winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of PWI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 29, and lost a couple of wickets.

Jesse Ryder, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored just a run. Eight balls into the chase, he was caught by Manoj Tiwary. Yusuf Pathan, the player of the match, broke the nine-run stand.

Manish Pandey, whose 12-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 16. Thirteen balls (Abdul)later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Iqbal, who broke the eight-run stand.

Callum Ferguson, whose 19-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 16. Thirty balls later, he was caught by Goswami. Shakib broke the 27-run stand.

PWI scored 50 off 10 overs (60 balls). KKR had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Sourav Ganguly, whose 22-ball innings included a six, scored 18. Twenty-three balls after Pathan’s dismissal, he was caught by Pathan. Shakib broke the 27-run stand.

Uthappa, whose 19-ball (Rob)innings included a boundary, scored a dozen. Ten balls later, he was caught by Brett Lee. Pathan broke the eight-run stand.

PWI scored 100 off 17.2 overs (104 balls). KKR had conceded 10 extras at that point.

Yuvraj Singh, PWI’s skipper, scored 24 off 26 balls, which included a couple of boundaries. Thirty-five balls after Uthappa’s dismissal, he was caught by Goswami. Lakshmipathy Balaji broke the 34-run stand.

Rana, whose 16-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 18. Three balls later, Balaji broke the five-run stand.

Wayne Parnell, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

KKR eventually conceded a dozen extras. PWI scored 118 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs.

Jacques Kallis and Rajat Bhatia bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 18, the latter conceded 11.

Lee, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 28.

Abdulla, who bowled three overs, conceded a dozen. He picked up a wicket.

Balaji, who bowled an over, had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he picked up a couple of scalps, as did Pathan and Shakib, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 23, the latter conceded 16.

The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 44, and lost a wicket.

Goswami, whose three-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Four balls into the match, he was caught by Uthappa. Needless to say, Thomas was in seventh heaven.

KKR scored 50 off seven overs (42 balls). PWI had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Tiwary, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 24. Forty-three balls after Goswami’s dismissal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar broke the 46-run stand.

KKR scored 100 off 13.1 overs (80 balls). PWI had conceded three extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 35 balls. While Gambhir’s contribution to the partnership was 26, Pathan’s contribution to it was 24. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Pathan, whose 25-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, eventually scored 29. Forty-nine balls after Tiwary’s dismissal, he was caught by Ganguly. Parnell broke the 64-run partnership.

Gambhir’s half-century – which included seven boundaries – came off 43 balls.

He eventually scored 54 off 46 balls, and was unbeaten, as was Bhatia, who faced three balls, scoring a run.

PWI eventually scored five extras. KKR, who scored 119 for the loss of three wickets off 16.4 overs, won by seven wickets with 20 balls to spare.

Rana bowled four wicketless balls, conceding two.

Yuvraj bowled two wicketless overs, conceding a dozen.

Rahul Sharma bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 29.

Thomas and Kumar bowled three overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 29, the latter conceded 19.

Parnell bowled four overs, conceding 27. He picked up a scalp.
