Kochi lose to Gilchrist-led KXIP

KTK made a couple of changes to their playing (Micha)eleven – Klinger and Ramesh Powar made way for Owais Shah and Sreesanth.

KXIP made one change to their playing eleven – Praveen Kumar made way for Piyush Chawla.

On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, KXIP’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of KTK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 62, without the loss of a wicket.

KTK’s openers put on 50 off 5.1 overs (31 balls). KXIP had conceded 13 extras at that point. While Brendon McCullum was unbea‘ten’, Mahela Jayawardene’s contribution to the partnership was 29.

McCullum, whose 27-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, eventually scored 32. Fifty-two balls into the (Shar)match, he was trapped leg before wicket by Bipul, who broke the 93-run partnership.

KTK scored 100 off 9.2 overs (56 balls). KXIP had conceded 19 extras at that point.

Ravindra Jadeja, whose 18-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 17. Twenty-seven balls after McCullum’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Chawla, who broke the 29-run stand.

Brad Hodge, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored four. Ten balls later, he was caught by Shaun Marsh. Needless to say, Bipul was in seventh heaven.

Jayawardene’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 30 balls.

KTK scored 150 off 16.4 overs (100 balls). KXIP had conceded 21 extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 36. Shah, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, scored 23. Twenty balls after Hodge’s dismissal, David Hussey and Gilchrist ran him out.

The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Parthiv Patel, who faced a ball, failed to open his account. The next ball, he was caught by Dinesh Karthik, the player of the match, off the bowling of Shalabh Srivastava.

Raiphi Gomez, who faced three balls, scored a couple. Nine balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Ryan Harris, who broke the 12-run stand.

The seventh-wicket pair put on a run. Jayawardene, whose 52-ball innings included eight boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 76. The next ball, Hussey ran him out.

Vinay Kumar, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

KXIP eventually conceded 23 extras. KTK scored 178 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs.

Bhargav Bhatt, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 36.

Harris, Srivastava and Chawla bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. They conceded 42, 34, and 30, respectively.

Bipul, who bowled four overs, conceded 32. He picked up a couple of scalps.  

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 49, and lost a couple of wickets.

Paul Valthaty, whose 10-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, scored 17. Seventeen balls into the chase, he was caught by Patel. Rudra Pratap Singh broke the 25-run stand.

Gilchrist, whose 15-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine. Eleven balls later, Rudra Pratap broke the six-run stand.

KXIP scored 50 off 6.2 overs (38 balls). KTK had conceded four extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 32 balls. While Marsh’s contribution to the partnership was 28, Karthik’s contribution to it was 24. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

KXIP scored 100 off 11.3 overs (69 balls). KTK had conceded five extras at that point.

Karthik’s half-century – which included five boundaries and four sixes – came off 24 balls.

The third-wicket pair put on 100 off 50 balls. While Marsh’s contribution to the partnership was 40, Karthik’s contribution to it was 59. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Karthik, whose 33-ball innings included seven boundaries and five sixes, eventually scored 69. Fifty-seven balls after Gilchrist’s dismissal, he was caught by Jayawardene. Rudra Pratap broke the 111-run partnership.

KXIP scored 150 off 16.1 overs (97 balls). KTK had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Marsh, whose 30-ball innings included five boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 42. Five balls after Karthik’s dismissal, he was caught by Rudra Pratap, who broke the three-run stand.

Hussey, whose 15-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 21. He was unbeaten.

Mandeep, whose innings included a boundary, scored 15. He was unbea‘ten’.

KTK eventually conceded eight extras. KXIP, who scored 181 for the loss of four wickets off 18.5 overs, had a reason to be in seventh heaven – they won by half-a-dozen wickets.

Gomez, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded a dozen.

Hodge and Prasanth Parameswaran bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 26, the latter conceded 23.

Vinay and Jadeja bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 28, the latter conceded 27.

Sreesanth, who bowled 3.5 wicketless overs, conceded 38.

Rudra Pratap, who bowled four overs, conceded 25. He picked up all the four wickets that fell.
