Pune disappointed; Sangakkara-led DC triumph

PWI made one change to their playing eleven – Shrikant Wagh made way for Mithun Manhas.

DC made a couple of changes to their playing (Michae)eleven – Lumb and Anand Rajan made way for Dwaraka Ravi Teja and Dale Steyn.

On winning the toss, Kumar Sangakkara, DC’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of PWI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 39, and lost a couple of wickets.

Jesse Ryder, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 18. Four overs into the match, he was caught by Ravi Teja. Steyn broke the 31-run stand.

Sourav Ganguly, who faced five balls, didn’t get off the mark. (Dani)Eleven balls later, he was caught by Pragyan Ojha. Christian broke the four-run stand.

Manish Pandey, whose 20-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 23. Five balls later, Ojha broke the 10-run stand.

The fourth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Robin Uthappa, who faced five balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Amit Mishra off his own bowling.

The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Manhas, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was dismissed by Mishra.

PWI scored 50 off 8.3 overs (51 balls). DC hadn’t conceded any extras at that point.

Callum Ferguson, whose 13-ball innings included a boundary, scored 11. Twenty balls after Manhas’ dismissal, he was caught by Jean-Paul Duminy, who broke the 28-run stand.

Yuvraj Singh, PWI’s skipper, scored 23 off 17 balls, which included three boundaries and a six. Twenty-two balls later, he was caught by Sangakkara. Christian broke the 19-run stand.

PWI scored 100 off 16.3 overs (99 balls). DC had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Mitchell Marsh, whose 28-ball innings included a boundary and three sixes, scored 37. Twenty-seven balls after Yuvraj’s dismissal, Ojha broke the 35-run stand.

The ninth-wicket pair put on nine. Wayne Parnell, whose run-a-ball innings included a six, scored 16. Four balls later, Christian and Ojha ran him out.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

DC eventually conceded three extras. PWI scored 136 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs.

Ishant Sharma, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 19.

Duminy, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 19. He picked up a wicket, as did Steyn, who bowled four overs, conceding 23.

Christian, who bowled three overs, conceded 13. He picked up a couple of scalps, as were Ojha and Mishra, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 35, the latter (whose spell included a maiden) conceded 26.

The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 57, without the loss of a wicket.

DC’s openers put on 50 off 5.3 overs (33 balls). PWI had conceded eight extras at that point. While Sunny Sohal’s contribution to the partnership was 27, Shikhar Dhawan’s contribution to it was 16.

Dhawan, whose 25-ball innings included four boundaries, eventually scored 28. Forty-nine balls into the chase, he was stumped by Uthappa. Yuvraj broke the 67-run partnership.

Sunny Sohal, whose 28-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 34. Rahul Sharma had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he trapped leg before wicket, breaking the six-run stand.

DC scored 100 off 14.2 overs (86 balls). PWI had conceded eight extras at that point.

Sangakkara, whose 21-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 25. Thirty-five balls after Sohal’s dismissal, he was caught by Uthappa. Rahul broke the run-a-ball stand.

Duminy, whose 26-ball innings included a six, scored 23. Fifteen balls later, Parnell broke the 18-run stand.

Christian, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary, scored 14. He was unbeaten, as was Bharat Chipli, who scored five. His four-ball innings included a boundary.

PWI eventually conceded nine extras. DC, who scored 138 for the loss of four wickets off 19.2 overs, lost by half-a-dozen wickets with four balls to spare.

Kumar, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 10.

Marsh and Manhas bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 30, the latter conceded 19.

Parnell, who bowled 3.2 overs, conceded 27. He picked up a wicket, as did Yuvraj, who bowled four overs, conceding 27.

Rahul, who bowled four overs, conceded 25. He picked up a couple of scalps.
