KXIP made (Abhish)ek change to their playing eleven – Bhargav Bhatt made way for Nayar.
RCB made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Luke Pomersbach and
Zaheer Khan made way for Asad Pathan and Johan van der Wath.
On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, KXIP’s skipper and the player of
the match, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory
Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 30, and lost
a wicket.
Paul Valthaty, whose 17-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and
a six, scored 20. Twenty-three balls into the match, he was caught by Saurabh Tiwary.
Charl Langeveldt broke the 25-run stand.
KXIP scored 50 off 7.3 overs (45 balls). RCB had conceded five extras at
that point.
The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 30 balls. While Gilchrist’s
contribution to the partnership was 34, Shaun Marsh’s contribution to it was
15. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.
Gilchrist’s half-century – which included a boundary and seven sixes –
came off 25 balls.
KXIP scored 100 off 10.1 overs (61 balls). The number of extras they had
conceded at that point gave RCB no reason to be in seventh heaven.

Virat Kohli, RCB’s skipper, bowled a wicketless over, conceded 13.
Abhimanyu Mithun bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 29.
Van der Wath, Sreenath Aravind and Gayle bowled four wicketless overs
apiece. They conceded 50, 36, and 35, respectively.
Langeveldt, who bowled four overs, conceded 48. He picked up a couple of
scalps.

Mithun, whose innings included a six, had no reason to be in seventh heaven
– he scored 10. Eight balls after van der Wath’s dismissal, he was caught by
Hussey. Harris broke the run-a-ball stand.
Langeveldt, whose run-a-ball innings included a six, scored eight. Nine
balls later, Srivastava broke the 18-run stand.
Aravind, whose five-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored
11. He was unbeaten.
