Yuvraj-led PWI leave Punjab disappointed

KXIP made five changes to their playing eleven – Abhishek Nayar, Sunny Singh, Ryan McLaren, Piyush Chawla and Love Ablish made way for David Hussey, Mandeep Singh, Siddharth Chitnis, Shalabh Srivastava and Bhargav Bhatt.

PWI made four changes to their playing eleven – Graeme Smith, Mithun Manhas, Jerome Taylor and Alfonso Thomas made way for Callum Ferguson, Mitchell Marsh, Wayne Parnell and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, KXIP’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 34, and lost a wicket.

Gilchrist, who faced eight balls, scored just three. Four balls into the match, he was caught by Abhishek Jhunjhunwala. Rahul, the player of the match, broke the 25-run stand.

KXIP scored 50 off 7.3 overs (45 balls). PWI had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Paul Valthaty, whose 22-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 23. Twenty-two balls after Gilchrist’s dismissal, he was caught by Bhuvneshwar. Rahul broke the 25-run stand.

Shaun Marsh, whose 28-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 32. Thirty balls later, Bhuvneshwar broke the run-a-ball stand.

Hussey, who faced five balls, scored four. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Robin Uthappa. Bhuvneshwar broke the 14-run stand.

KXIP scored 100 off 15.3 overs (93 balls). PWI had conceded four extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Dinesh Karthik, whose 27-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 30. Seven balls after Hussey’s dismissal, he was caught by Jhunjhunwala. Mitchell broke the six-run stand.

Mandeep, who faced 11 balls, scored half-a-dozen. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Yuvraj Singh, PWI’s skipper. Parnell broke the 10-run stand.

Ryan Harris, who faced four balls, scored as many. His runs came by way of a boundary. Four balls later, he was caught by Yuvraj. Mitchell broke the run-a-ball stand.

Chitnis, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine. Three balls later, he was caught by Jhunjhunwala. Parnell broke the two-run stand.

Praveen Kumar, who faced five balls, scored three. He was unbeaten, as was Srivastava, who faced a ball, scoring a run.

KXIP scored 119 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs.

Jhunjhunwala bowled a wicketless over, conceding 11.

Shrikant Wagh and Yuvraj bowled a couple of wicketless overs. While the former conceded 18, the latter conceded 17.

Bhuvneshwar bowled three overs, conceding 14. He picked up a couple of scalps, as did Mitchell, Rahul and Parnell, who bowled four overs apiece. They conceded 26, 17, and 12, respectively.

The first Powerplay of PWI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 40, and lost a wicket.

Jesse Ryder, whose 18-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 15. Twenty-eight balls into the chase, he was caught by Hussey. Bhatt broke the 32-run stand.

PWI scored 50 off 7.2 overs (44 balls). KXIP had conceded five extras at that point.

Uthappa, whose 18-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 22. Thirty-one balls later, he was caught by Srivastava. Harris broke the 37-run stand.

Manish Pandey, whose 30-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 28. Fourteen balls later, Praveen broke the 15-run stand.

PWI scored 100 off 14.3 overs (87 balls). KXIP had conceded 10 extras at that point.

Yuvraj, whose 15-ball innings included five boundaries and a couple of sixes, scored 35. Twenty balls after Pandey’s dismissal, he was caught by Srivastava, who broke the 32-run stand.

Callum Ferguson, who faced 14 balls, scored half-a-dozen. He was unbeaten.

Jhunjhunwala, who faced three balls, didn’t get off the mark. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Gilchrist. Srivastava broke the one-run stand.

Mitchell, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored a couple. He was unbeaten.

KXIP eventually conceded 12 extras. PWI, who scored 120 for the loss of five wickets off 17.1 overs, won by five wickets with 17 balls to spare.

Valthaty bowled 2.1 wicketless overs, conceding 17.

Bhatt, Harris and Praveen (whose spell included a maiden) bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. They conceded 35, 26, and 17, respectively.

Srivastava bowled three overs, conceding 20. He picked up a couple of scalps.
