Hussey delighted; KXIP beat Chennai

CSK made one change to their playing (Mork)eleven – Doug Bollinger made way for Albie.

KXIP (Shar)made one change to their playing eleven – Siddharth Chitnis made way for Bipul.

On winning the toss, David Hussey, KXIP’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 43, without the loss of a wicket.

KXIP’s openers put on 50 off 6.4 overs (40 balls). CSK had conceded four extras at that point. While the contribution of Mandeep Singh, the player of the match, to the partnership was 29, Shaun Marsh’s contribution to it was 17.

KXIP’s openers eventually put on 68. Marsh, whose 22-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually scored 32. Forty-nine balls into the match, Ravichandran Ashwin ran him out.

Azhar Mahmood, whose 12-ball innings included a couple of sixes, scored 18. Twenty-three balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Dwayne, who Br(av)oke the 29-run stand.

KXIP scored 100 off 12.3 overs (75 balls). CSK had conceded five extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

David Miller, whose 15-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scoreD(ho)nineteen. Twenty-three balls after Mahmood’s dismissal, he was caught by Mahendra Singh, CSK’s skipper. Morkel broke the 30-run stand.

Mandeep’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a six – came off 44 balls.

He eventually scored 56 off 50 balls. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Suresh Raina. Bravo broke the run-a-ball stand.

Although his nine-ball innings included a boundary, Hussey had no reason to be in seventh heaven – three balls later, he was caught by Shadab Jakati. Morkel broke the five-run stand.

The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Piyush, who faced a couple of balls, failed to open his account. A couple of dot balls (Chaw)later, he was caught by Bravo off the bowling of Morkel.

The seventh-wicket pair put on 10. Although his five-ball innings included a boundary, Bipul had no reason to be in seventh heaven – half-a-dozen balls later, Dhoni ran him out.  

KXIP scored 150 off 19.1 overs (115 balls).

Saini, whose four-ball (Nit)innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Seven balls after Bipul’s dismissal, he was caught by Nuwan Kulasekara, who broke the six-run stand.

Praveen Kumar, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored as many. He was unbeaten, as was Parvinder Awana, who did not face a ball.

KXIP scored 156 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs.

Ravindra Jadeja and Raina bowled a wicketless over apiece. While the former conceded 15, the latter conceded eight.

Jakati, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 22.

Ashwin, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 25.

Kulasekara, who bowled four overs, conceded 29. He picked up a wicket.

Bravo, who bowled four overs, conceded 28. He picked up a couple of wickets.

Morkel, who bowled four overs, conceded 29. He picked up three scalps.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 48, and lost a wicket.

Faf du Plessis, whose 20-ball innings included three boundaries and a couple of sixes, scored 29. Thirty-three balls into the chase, he was caught by Mahmood, who broke the 47-run stand.

CSK scored 50 off 6.2 overs (38 balls). KXIP hadn’t conceded any extras at that point.

Subramaniam Badrinath, whose 18-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 25. Thirteen balls after du Plessis’ dismissal, he was caught by the substitute, Paras Dogra. Mahmood broke the 15-run stand.

Raina, whose 17-ball innings included a boundary, scored 15. Sixteen balls (Chaw)later, he was stumped. The leggie broke the (Sai)nine-run stand.

Wriddhiman, who faced 14 balls, scored just Saha. Fourteen balls later, Hussey broke the 16-run stand.

The fifth-wicket pair put on a run. Dhoni, who faced four balls, scored a run. Four balls later, Saini ran him out.

Jadeja, whose 11-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 17. Eight balls (Chaw)later, he was caught by Hussey. The leggie broke the 10-run stand.  

CSK scored 100 off 15.1 overs (91 balls). KXIP hadn’t conceded four extras at that point.

Bravo, whose 21-ball innings included a couple of sixes, scored 30. Twenty-five balls after Jadeja’s dismissal, he was caught by Chawla. Kumar broke the 38-run stand.

Morkel, who faced nine balls, scored eight. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Marsh. Mahmood broke the four-run stand.

Kulasekara and Ashwin faced three balls each, scoring a boundary apiece, and were unbeaten. While the former scored five, the latter had a reason to be in seventh heaven.

KXIP eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. CSK had no reason to be in seventh heaven – they scored 149 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs.

Bipul, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 11.

Bhargav Bhatt, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 13.

Awana, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 34.

Hussey, who bowled an over, conceded three. He picked up a wicket, as did Kumar, who bowled four overs, conceding 40.

Chawla, who bowled four overs, conceded 20. He picked up a couple of wickets.
