MI made three changes to their playing (Pat)eleven – James Franklin,
Munaf and Clint McKay made way for Aiden Blizzard, Lasith Malinga and Rahul
Shukla.
On winning the toss, Harbhajan Singh, MI’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 54, without the loss of
a wicket.
DD’s openers put on 50 off 5.5 overs (35 balls). MI had conceded an
extra at that point. While Mahela Jayawardene’s contribution to the partnership
was 30, the contribution of Virender Sehwag, their skipper and the player of
the match, to it was 21.
Sehwag’s half-century – which included five boundaries and three sixes –
came off 30 balls.
DD’s openers put on 100 off 10.4 overs (64 balls). MI had conceded five extras
at that point. While Jayawardene’s contribution to the partnership was 41, Sehwag’s
contribution to it was 55.
Jayawardene’s half-century – which included seven boundaries – came off
39 balls.
He eventually scored 55 off 42 balls, which included eight boundaries.
Seventy-nine balls (Rob)into the (Shar)match, he was caught by Rohit. Peterson
broke the 135-run partnership.
DD scored 150 off 15 overs (90 balls). MI had conceded nine extras at
that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Sehwag, whose 39-ball innings included eight boundaries and four sixes,
eventually scored 73. A dozen balls after Jayawardene’s dismissal, he was
caught by Rudra Pratap Singh. Peterson broke the 14-run stand.
The third-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Irfan Pathan, who faced a
ball, didn’t open his account. A couple of dot balls later, he was caught by
the substitute, Thisara Perera, off the bowling of Peterson.
Although his innings included a couple of sixes, Ross Taylor had no
reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored 15. Sixteen balls later, he was
trapped leg before wicket by Malinga, who broke the 41-run stand.
The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Yogesh Nagar, who faced a
ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was trapped leg before wicket
by Malinga.
DD scored 200 off 19.1 overs (115 balls).
Kevin Pietersen’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries
and three sixes – came off 25 balls.
He eventually faced 26 balls, failing to add to the aforementioned
score. He was unbeaten.
Naman Ojha, who faced four balls, scored five. He was unbeaten.
DD scored 207 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.
Kieron Pollard, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 23.
Shukla, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 31.
Harbhajan and Rudra Pratap bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While
the former conceded 42, the latter conceded 41.
Malinga, who bowled four overs, conceded 31. He picked up a couple of
wickets.
Peterson, who bowled four overs, conceded 37. He picked up three scalps.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 31 balls. While Dinesh Karthik’s contribution
to the partnership was 24, Ambati Rayudu’s contribution to it was 27. Extras’ contribution
to the partnership was a run.
MI scored 100 off 11.1 overs (67 balls). DD had conceded a couple of extras
at that point.
Karthik, whose 28-ball innings included seven boundaries, eventually
scored 40. Fifty-eight balls after Sharma’s dismissal, Agarkar broke the 96-run
partnership.
Rayudu’s half-century – which included four boundaries and three sixes –
came off 29 balls.
He eventually scored 62 off 39 balls, which included five boundaries, in
addition to the aforementioned number of sixes. Fourteen balls after Karthik’s
dismissal, he was caught by Jayawardene. Shahbaz Nadeem broke the 24-run stand.
The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Pollard, whose nine-ball
innings included a boundary and a six, scored 16. The next ball, he was
dismissed by Nadeem.

balls later, Yadav broke the two-run stand.
Rudra Pratap, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.
MI, who scored 170 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs, lost by 37
runs.
Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.
Agarkar and Morkel picked up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded
32, the latter conceded 21.
Pathan, Yadav and Nadeem picked up two scalps apiece. They conceded 46,
36, and 35, respectively.
