Pune lose to Sangakkara-led DC

PWI made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Luke Wright and Murali Kartik made way for Marlon Samuels and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

DC made three changes to their playing eleven – Dale Steyn, Anand Rajan, and Veer Pratap Singh made way for Ashish Reddy, Juan ‘Rusty’ Theron, and Manpreet Gony.

On winning the toss, Kumar Sangakkara, DC’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 50, and lost a couple of wickets.

DC’s openers put on 39. Shikhar Dhawan, whose 11-ball (Rob)innings included a boundary and a six, scored 16. Four overs into the match, Manish Pandey and Uthappa ran him out.

Parthiv, whose 18-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 24. A couple of overs later, he was caught by Uthappa. Kumar broke the (Pat)eleven-run stand.

DC scored 50 off 5.5 overs (35 balls). PWI had conceded five extras at that point.

Sangakkara, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary, scored a dozen. Thirty-one balls after Patel’s dismissal, Rahul Sharma broke the 33-run stand.

DC scored 100 off 13.1 overs (79 balls). PWI had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Cameron White, the player of the match, scored 50 off 35 balls, which included five boundaries and a couple of sixes.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 27 balls. While White’s contribution to the partnership was 38, Jean-Paul Duminy’s contribution to it was nine. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

DC scored 150 off 16.5 overs (101 balls). PWI had conceded 10 extras at that point.

White, whose 46-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and five sixes, eventually scored 78. Thirty-eight balls after Sangakkara’s dismissal, he was caught by Alfonso Thomas. Samuels broke the 75-run partnership.

Duminy, whose 24-ball innings included a six, eventually scored 26. He was unbeaten.

Ishank Jaggi had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he was unbea‘ten’.

PWI eventually conceded 11 extras. DC scored 177 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Ashish Nehra and Thomas were wicketless. While the former conceded 29, the latter conceded 27.

Samuels and Sharma conceded 39 each. They picked up a scalp apiece, as did Kumar, who conceded 34.

Although his six-ball innings included a boundary, Ryder had no reason to be in (Jes)seventh heaven – 15 balls into the chase, he was caught by the substitute, Daniel Harris. Ankit Sharma broke the run-a-ball stand.

Manish Pandey, whose 20-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 21. Seventeen balls later, Theron broke the 28-run stand.

PWI scored 50 off 6.2 overs (38 balls). DC had conceded three extras at that point.

Sourav Ganguly, PWI’s skipper, scored 23. His 20-ball innings included three boundaries and a six. Twenty-seven balls after Pandey’s dismissal, he was caught by Harris. Gony broke the 30-run stand.

Uthappa, whose 27-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 29. Twenty balls later, Reddy broke the 15-run stand.

Samuels, who faced eight balls, scored just three. Five balls later, he was caught by Sangakkara. Reddy broke the three-run stand.

PWI scored 100 off 14.5 overs (89 balls). DC had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Steve, whose (Smi)thirteen-ball innings included three sixes, scored 26. Eighteen balls after Samuels’ dismissal, he was caught by Duminy. Theron broke the 32-run stand.

Manhas, whose 14-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 22. He was (Mith)unbeaten.

PWI scored 150 off 19 overs (115 balls). DC had conceded nine extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The seventh-wicket pair put on 29. Thomas, whose nine-ball innings included a six, scored a dozen. Fifteen balls after Smith’s dismissal, Patel ran him out.

Kumar, whose four-ball innings included a boundary, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he was unbeaten.

PWI, who scored 159 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs, lost by 18 runs.

Amit Mishra and Duminy bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 25, the latter conceded 24.

Ankit Sharma, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 11. He picked up a wicket, as did Gony, who bowled four overs, conceding 27.

Theron and Reddy, who bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of scalps apiece. While the former conceded 37, the latter conceded 32.
