Hyderabad lose to Sehwag-led DD

DD made no changes to their playing eleven.

DC made a couple of changes to their playing (Pat)eleven – Tanmay Mishra (An)and Rajan made way for Parthiv and Twenty20 debutant Veer Pratap Singh.

On winning the toss, Kumar Sangakkara, DC’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 50, and lost a wicket.

Sangakkara had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just a run. Sixteen balls into the match, he was caught by Yogesh Nagar. Morne Morkel broke the 10-run stand.

DC scored 50 off half-a-dozen overs (36 balls). DD hadn’t conceded any extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 29 balls. While Shikhar Dhawan’s contribution to the partnership was 24, Patel’s contribution to it was 28. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Dhawan, whose 29-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, eventually scored 44. Forty-two balls after Sangakkara’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Shahbaz Nadeem, who broke the 71-run partnership.

DC scored 100 off 10.5 overs (66 balls). DD had conceded four extras at that point.

Patel, whose 27-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, eventually scored 45. Eleven balls after Dhawan’s dismissal, he was caught by Mahela Jayawardene. Nadeem broke the 25-run stand.

Jean-Paul Duminy, who faced five balls, scored four. Ten balls later, he was caught by Virender Sehwag, DD’s skipper. Needless to say, Needless to say, Nadeem was in seventh heaven.

Daniel Christian, whose 21-ball innings included a boundary, scored 19. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Nadeem. Umesh Yadav broke the 12-run stand.

Bharat Chipli, whose 17-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 25. He was unbeaten.

Abhishek, who faced five balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Seven balls (Jhunjhunwa)later, he was caught by Naman Ojha. Morkel broke the run-a-ball stand.

Dale Steyn, who faced three balls, scored a couple. Three balls later, he was caught by Sehwag. Morkel broke the two-run stand.

DC scored 150 off 19 overs (115 balls). DD had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The eighth-wicket pair put on 22. Amit Mishra, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored as many. A dozen balls later, Kevin Pietersen, the player of the match, and Ojha ran him out.

Ankit Sharma, whose faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

DC scored 157 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs.

Pietersen, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 16.

Ajit Agarkar, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 42.

Irfan Pathan, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 27.

Yadav, who bowled three overs, conceded 33. He picked up a wicket.

Morkel and Nadeem bowled four overs each, picking up three scalps apiece. While the former conceded 23, the latter conceded 16.

Ojha, who faced four balls, scored a run. Five balls into the chase, he was caught by Duminy. Singh broke the two-run stand.

Jayawardene, whose five-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Seven balls later, he was caught by Sangakkara. Christian broke the eight-run stand.

DD scored 50 off 7.3 overs (45 balls). DC had conceded an extra at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 42. Ross Taylor, whose 11-ball innings included a boundary, scored 13. Thirty-one balls later, Dhawan ran him out.

Pietersen’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 42 balls.

DD scored 100 off 12.5 overs (77 balls). DC had conceded four extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Pathan, who faced 11 balls, scored just five. Thirty balls after Taylor’s dismissal, he was caught by Patel. Steyn broke the 49-run stand.

DD scored 150 off 18 overs (108 balls).

Pietersen’s ton – which included the aforementioned number of boundaries, in addition to nine sixes – came off 64 balls.

He eventually scored 103, and was unbeaten, as was Nagar, who scored 23 off 15 balls, which included three boundaries.

DD, who scored 162 for the loss of five wickets off 19.1 overs, won by five wickets with five balls to spare.

Amit bowled two wicketless overs, conceding 26.

Sharma bowled 13 wicketless balls, conceding 18.

Duminy bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 33.

Christian and Singh bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 35, the latter conceded 31.

Steyn bowled four overs, conceding 19. He picked up a couple of scalps.
