CSK made three changes to their playing (Mork)eleven – Murali Vijay, Albie and Yo Mahesh made way for Wriddhiman Saha, Shadab Jakati and Doug Bollinger.
PWI made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Mithun Manhas and Ashok Dinda made way for Manish Pandey and Murali Kartik.
On winning the toss, Sourav Ganguly, PWI’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 42, without the loss of a wicket.
CSK’s openers put on 50 off 7.4 overs (47 balls). PWI had conceded an
extra at that point. While Faf du Plessis’ contribution to the partnership was
25, Subramaniam Badrinath’s contribution to it was 24. Extras’ contribution to
the partnership was a run.
Du Plessis’ half-century – which included four boundaries and a six –
came off 42 balls.
CSK’s openers put on 100 off 14 overs (85 balls). PWI had conceded an
extra at that point. While du Plessis’ contribution to the partnership was 58, Badrinath’s
contribution to it was 41. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.
Badrinath’s half-century – which included seven boundaries – came off 42
balls.
Du Plessis, whose 48-ball innings included four boundaries and a couple
of sixes, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. Ninety-four balls into the
match, he was caught by Angelo Mathews. Marlon Samuels broke the 116-run
partnership.
The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Badrinath eventually
scored 57 off 48 balls, which included eight boundaries. A couple of balls
later, he was caught by Mathews off the bowling of Samuels.
Suresh Raina, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. Four
balls later, he was caught by Murali Kartik. Ashish Nehra broke the three-run
stand.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, whose 12-ball innings included three boundaries
and a six, scored 28. He was unbeaten.
Dwayne Bravo, whose eight-ball innings included a six, scored a dozen.
Fourteen balls after Raina’s dismissal, he was caught by Mathews. Ashish Nehra
broke the 23-run stand.
CSK scored 150 off 19.1 overs (116 balls). PWI had conceded a couple of extras
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually

Although his three-ball innings included a six, Ravindra Jadeja had no
reason to be in seventh heaven – seven balls later, he was caught by Rahul
Sharma. Samuels broke the 22-run stand.
CSK scored 164 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.
Mathews, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded a dozen.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 37.
Sharma and Kartik bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the former
conceded 28, the latter conceded 24.
Nehra, who bowled four overs, conceded 23. He picked up a couple of
wickets.
Samuels, who bowled four overs, conceded 39. He picked up three scalps.

Uthappa, who faced five balls, scored eight. His runs came by way of
boundaries. Eight balls (Rob)into the chase, he was caught by Ravichandran
Ashwin. Nuwan Kulasekara, the player of the match, broke the 13-run stand.
Jesse Ryder, whose 10-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored nine. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Bravo. Kulasekara broke the
13-run stand.
PWI scored 50 off half-a-dozen overs (36 balls). CSK had conceded three extras
at that point.
Pandey, whose six-ball innings included a six, scored 13. Forty-five
balls after Ryder’s dismissal, he was caught by Badrinath. Bravo broke the
27-run stand.
Ganguly, whose 26-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 24.
Twenty-one balls later, he was caught by Kulasekara. Jakati broke the 11-run
stand.
Samuels, whose 24-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a
six, scored 26. Twenty-two balls later, he was caught by Kulasekara. Ashwin
broke the 33-run stand.
PWI scored 100 off 14 overs (84 balls). The number of extras they had conceded
at that point gave CSK no reason to be in seventh heaven.
Steven Smith, who faced 21 balls, scored 23. Thirty balls after Samuels’
dismissal, he was caught by du Plessis. Bollinger broke the 44-run stand.
Mathews, whose 22-ball innings included a boundary, scored 27. Five
balls later, Bravo broke the three-run stand.
PWI scored 150 off 19.5 overs (120 balls). CSK had conceded 15 extras at
that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Kumar, who faced four balls, scored a couple. He was unbeaten, as was
Kartik, who faced three balls, scoring four.
PWI, who scored 151 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs, lost by
13 runs.
Jadeja bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 21.
Bollinger and Jakati bowled three overs each, picking up a wicket apiece.
While the former conceded 30, the latter conceded 20.
Ashwin bowled four overs, conceding 35. He picked up a wicket.
Kulasekara, who bowled two overs, conceded 10. He picked up a couple of
scalps, as did Bravo, who bowled four overs, conceding 28.
