KXIP made four changes to their playing eleven – Adam Gilchrist, Paras Dogra, Dimitri Mascarenhas and Bhargav Bhatt made way for Nitin Saini, David Miller, Azhar Mahmood and Parvinder Awana.
RCB made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Tillakaratne Dilshan and K P Appanna made way for Andrew McDonald and Arun Karthik.
On winning the toss, Daniel Vettori, RCB’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 41, and lost a couple of wickets.
Saini, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary, scored 14. Sixteen balls into the match, Zaheer Khan broke the 14-run stand.
Paul Valthaty, whose 12-ball innings included A Boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by de Villiers. Khan broke the 13-run stand.
KXIP scored 50 off seven overs (42 balls). RCB hadn’t conceded any extras at that point.
Shaun Marsh, whose 17-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 26. Nineteen balls after Valthaty’s dismissal, McDonald broke the 30-run stand.
Miller, who faced 13 balls, scored eight. Thirty-five balls later, he was caught by Khan. McDonald broke the 37-run stand.
KXIP scored 100 off 14.3 overs (87 balls). The number of extras they had at that point gave RCB no reason to be in seventh heaven.
David Hussey, KXIP’s skipper, scored 41 off 34 balls, which included four boundaries. An over after Miller’s dismissal, Harshal broke the (Pat)eleven-run stand.
Mandeep Singh, who faced 15 balls, scored 20. Twenty-five balls later, he was caught by Virat Kohli. Vinay Kumar broke the 44-run stand.
KXIP scored 150 off 19.2 overs (116 balls). RCB had conceded eight extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.
Mahmood, whose 14-ball innings included three boundaries and a couple of sixes, scored 33. He was unbeaten, as was Chawla, who scored seven off three balls, which included a boundary.
RCB scored 163 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.
Vettori, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 24.
Patel and Vinay bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 44, the latter conceded 40.
Khan and McDonald bowled four overs, conceding 25, each, picking up a couple of scalps apiece.

Gayle, whose 56-ball innings included eight boundaries and four sixes, eventually scored 87. Seventy-six balls after Tiwary’s dismissal, he was caught by Hussey. Awana broke the 131-run partnership.
De Villiers eventually scored 52 off 39 balls. Five balls (Chaw)later, the leggie trapped him leg before wicket, breaking the two-run stand.
McDonald, whose six-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. He was unbeaten, as was Vettori, who faced three balls, scoring a couple.
RCB, who scored 166 for the loss of five wickets off 19.3 overs, lost by five wickets with three balls to spare.
Mahmood bowled 3.3 overs, conceding 30. He was wicketless, as were Harmeet Singh and Praveen Kumar, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 46, the latter conceded 35.
Chawla bowled four overs, conceding 21. He picked up a wicket.
