MI made three changes to their playing eleven – Richard Levi, Davy Jacobs and Clint McKay made way for James Franklin, Sachin Tendulkar and Thisara Perera.
KXIP made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Paul Valthaty and
Harmeet Singh made way for Siddharth Chitnis and Bhargav Bhatt.
On winning the toss, Harbhajan Singh, MI’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 39, without the loss of
a wicket.
MI’s openers put on 50 off eight overs (48 balls). KXIP had conceded a
couple of extras at that point. While Franklin’s contribution to the
partnership was 26, Tendulkar’s contribution to it was 22.
They eventually put on 51. Tendulkar, whose run-a-ball (Nit)innings
included three boundaries, scored 23. Forty-nine balls into the match, David
Miller and Saini ran him out.
Rohit Sharma, who faced five balls, scored a couple. Seven balls later,
he was caught by Saini. Parvinder Awana broke the five-run stand.
Franklin’s half-century – which included four boundaries and a couple of
sixes – came off 38 balls.
MI scored 100 off 13.1 overs (79 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of
extras at that point.
The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 26 balls. While Franklin’s contribution
to the partnership was 22, Dinesh Karthik’s contribution to it was 28. Extras didn’t
contribute to the partnership.
The third-wicket pair eventually put on 75. Karthik, whose 20-ball
innings included five boundaries, eventually scored 35. Thirty-six balls after
Sharma’s dismissal, Shaun Marsh, the player of the match, and Piyush Chawla ran
him out.
Although his 10-ball innings included a boundary, Kieron Pollard had no
reason to be in seventh heaven – 14 balls later, he was caught by Mandeep Singh.
Awana broke the 11-run stand.
MI scored 150 off 18.2 overs (110 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of
extras at that point.
Franklin, whose 51-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and
four sixes, eventually scored 79. Five balls after Pollard’s dismissal, he was
caught by Miller. Praveen Kumar broke the 10-run stand.
The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Harbhajan, who faced three
balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. The next ball, he was
caught by Chitnis off the bowling of Kumar.
Perera, who faced five balls, scored four. He was unbeaten, as was Ambati
Rayudu, who faced three balls, scoring as many.
KXIP eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. MI scored 163 for the loss
of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.
David Hussey, KXIP’s skipper, bowled a wicketless over, conceding 12.
Bhatt bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 33.
Azhar Mahmood and the leggie bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While
the former conceded 39, the (Chaw)latter conceded 19.
Kumar and Awana bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of scalps
apiece. While the former (whose spell included a maiden) conceded 36, the
latter conceded 23.
The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory
Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 48, without
the loss of a wicket.
Saini, whose 25-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 30.
Thirty-eight balls into the match, he was trapped leg before wicket by Pragyan
Ojha, who broke the 48-run stand.
KXIP scored 50 off 6.4 overs (40 balls). MI hadn’t conceded any extras
at that point.
Mandeep, whose 21-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 24.
Sixteen balls after Saini’s dismissal, he was caught by Franklin. Pollard broke
the 13-run stand.
KXIP scored 100 off 13.4 overs (82 balls). MI hadn’t conceded any extras
at that point.
The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 33 balls. While Marsh’s contribution
to the partnership was 29, Hussey’s contribution to it was 20. Extras’ contribution
to the partnership was a run.
Hussey, whose 19-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored
21. Thirty-eight balls after Mandeep’s dismissal, he was caught by Rayudu.
Pollard broke the 58-run partnership.
Marsh’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a six – came off
33 balls.
He eventually scored 68 off 40 balls, which included the aforementioned
number of boundaries, in addition to three sixes. He was unbeaten.
KXIP scored 150 off 18.5 overs (113 balls). MI had conceded half-a-dozen
extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they
eventually conceded.
Although his innings included a six, Mahmood had no reason to be in
seventh heaven – he scored 10. Thirteen balls after Hussey’s dismissal, he was
caught by Perera. Ojha broke the 21-run stand.
Miller, who faced five balls, scored as many. He was unbeaten.
KXIP, who scored 164 for the loss of four wickets off 19.3 overs, won by
half-a-dozen wickets with three balls to spare.
Perera bowled nine wicketless balls, scoring 19.
Rudra Pratap Singh bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 28.
Munaf Patel and Harbhajan bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the
former conceded 41, the latter conceded 34.
Ojha bowled three overs, conceding 28. He picked up two scalps, as did
Pollard, who bowled four overs, conceding 14.
