Punjab lose to Dravid-led RR

KXIP made one change to their playing eleven – Paras Dogra made way for Gurkeerat Singh Mann.

RR made five changes to their playing eleven – Owais Shah, Shreevats Goswami, Brad Hogg and the Singhs (Amit and Pankaj) made way for Johan Botha, Stuart Binny, Dishant Yagnik, Shaun Tait and Siddharth Trivedi.

On winning the toss, Rahul Dravid, RR’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of RR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 64, and lost a wicket.

Ajinkya Rahane, whose six-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Eight balls (Nit)into the match, he was caught by Saini. Needless to say, Ryan Harris was in seventh heaven.

RR scored 50 off 5.3 overs (33 balls). KXIP had conceded three extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 27 balls. While Dravid’s contribution to it was 26, the contribution of Shane Watson, the player of the match, to it was 25. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Watson, whose 17-ball innings included four boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 36. Thirty-nine balls after Rahane’s dismissal, he was caught by Harris. Piyush Chawla broke the 69-run partnership.

RR scored 100 off 11.3 overs (69 balls). KXIP had conceded three extras at that point.

Dravid, whose 39-ball innings included eight boundaries, eventually scored 46. Thirty-three balls after Watson’s dismissal, he was caught by Parvinder Awana. Harris broke the 41-run stand.

Ashok Menaria, whose 27-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, scored 34. Sixteen balls (Chaw)later, he was caught by Mann. The leggie broke the run-a-ball stand.

RR scored 150 off 18 overs (108 balls). KXIP had conceded five extras at that point.

Brad Hodge, whose 23-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, eventually scored 36. Twenty-two balls after Menaria’s dismissal, he was caught by Shaun Marsh. Harris broke the 43-run stand.

Botha, whose eight-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 14. He was unbeaten.

Binny, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. A couple of balls after Hodge’s dismissal, he was caught by Marsh. Harris broke the one-run stand.

KXIP eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. RR scored 177 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Azhar Mahmood, Awana and Praveen Kumar were wicketless. They conceded 37, 34, and 32, respectively.

Chawla, who conceded 38, picked up a couple of wickets.

Harris, who conceded 34, picked up four scalps.

Although his six-ball innings included a six, Mandeep Singh had no reason to be in seventh heaven – nine balls into the chase, he was caught by Trivedi. Watson broke the eight-run stand.

Saini, who faced nine balls, scored just a couple. Twenty-four balls later, he was caught by Tait, who broke the 21-run stand.

KXIP scored 50 off seven overs (42 balls). RR had conceded five extras at that point.

David Hussey, KXIP’s skipper, faced half-a-dozen balls, scoring eight. His runs came by way of boundaries. A dozen balls after Saini’s dismissal, he was caught by Hodge. Trivedi broke the 26-run stand.

Marsh, whose 27-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, scored 34. Half-a-dozen balls later, Botha broke the four-run stand.

Mahmood, whose run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 24. Thirty-eight balls later, Binny broke the 36-run stand.

KXIP scored 100 off 15.2 overs (92 balls). RR had conceded 10 extras at that point.

Mann, whose 24-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 23. Ten balls after Mahmood’s dismissal, he was caught by Botha, who broke the 17-run stand.

Abhishek Nayar, who faced eight balls, scored nine. He was unbeaten.

Chawla, whose four-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Half-a-dozen balls after Mann’s dismissal, Watson broke the eight-run stand.

Harris, who faced five balls, scored three. Five balls later, he was caught by Botha. Tait broke the three-run stand.

Although his eight-ball innings included a boundary, Praveen, who was unbeaten, had no reason to be in seventh heaven.

RR eventually conceded a dozen extras. KXIP, who scored 134 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs, lost by 43 runs.

Ankeet Chavan bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 32.

Binny bowled an over, conceding eight. He picked up a wicket, as did Trivedi, who bowled four overs, conceding 28.

Watson bowled four overs, included a maiden. He conceded 22, picking up two wickets.

Botha and Tait also bowled four overs each, picking up two scalps apiece. While the former conceded 21, the latter conceded 18.
