KKR made one change to their playing eleven – Marchant de Lange made way for Brett Lee.
PWI made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Jesse Ryder and Ashish
Nehra made way for Manish Pandey and Angelo Mathews.
On winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the fourth over. They scored 68, without the loss
of a wicket.
KKR’s openers put on 50 off five overs (30 balls). PWI had conceded 13
extras at that point. While Gambhir’s contribution to the partnership was 22,
Brendon McCullum’s contribution to it was 15.
Gambhir’s half-century – which included four boundaries and a couple of sixes
– came off 30 balls.
KKR’s openers put on 100 off 10.2 overs (62 balls). PWI had conceded 15
extras at that point. While Gambhir’s contribution to the partnership was 51, McCullum’s
contribution to it was 34.
Gambhir eventually scored 56 off 36 balls. Seventy-six balls into the
match, he was caught by Mithun Manhas. Murali Kartik broke the 113-run
partnership.
McCullum, whose 43-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, eventually
conceded 42. Seven balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Mathews,
who broke the two-run stand.
Jacques Kallis, who faced four balls, scored a run. Ten balls later,
Mathews was in seventh heaven.
Yusuf Pathan, who faced 15 balls, scored 11. Eleven balls later, he was
caught by Steve Smith. Bhuvneshwar Kumar broke the 12-run stand.
Debabrata Das, whose 18-ball innings included a six, scored 15. He was
unbeaten.
Laxmi Ratan Shukla, who faced a ball, failed to get off the mark. Five
balls after Pathan’s dismissal, he was caught by Sourav Ganguly, PWI’s skipper.
Needless to say, Bhuvneshwar was in seventh heaven.
Manoj Tiwary, who faced four balls, scored half-a-dozen. He was
unbeaten.
KKR scored 150 (for the loss of five wickets) off 20 overs (121 balls).
PWI had conceded 19 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of
extras they eventually conceded.
Ashok Dinda and Michael Clarke bowled a couple of wicketless overs
apiece. While the former conceded 28, the latter conceded 14.
Wayne Parnell, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 37.
Kartik, who bowled four overs, conceded 22. He picked up a wicket.
Bhuvneshwar and Mathews bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of
scalps apiece. While the former conceded 26, the latter conceded 17.

of wickets.
Clarke, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Eight balls into the
chase, de Lange broke the 10-run stand.
Uthappa, whose 14-ball (Rob)innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 17. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Shukla. De Lange broke the
18-run stand.
Pandey, whose 15-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored
17. Eighteen balls (Abdul)later, he was caught by Das. Iqbal broke the 21-run
stand.
PWI scored 50 off 6.5 overs (42 balls). KKR had conceded four extras at
that point.
Manhas, who faced three balls, scored a run. Half-a-dozen balls after Pandey’s
dismissal, he was caught by Abdulla. Kallis broke the four-run stand.
Smith, whose 16-ball innings included a boundary, scored 14. He was
trapped leg be‘four’ wicket by Sunil Narine, who broke the two-run stand.
PWI scored 100 off 14.2 overs (87 balls). KKR had conceded 10 extras at
that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
The sixth-wicket pair put on 50 off 37 balls. While Mathews’ contribution
to the partnership was 25, Ganguly’s contribution to it was 22. Extras’ contribution
to the partnership was half-a-dozen.
Ganguly, whose 35-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually
scored 36. Fifty-six balls after Smith’s dismissal, he was caught by Abdulla.
Rajat Bhatia broke the 73-run partnership.
The seventh-wicket pair put on three. Parnell, who faced a couple of
balls, scored a run. Five balls later, Shukla and McCullum ran him out.
Mathews, whose 27-ball innings included three sixes, eventually scored
35. Seven balls later, he was caught by Shukla. De Lange broke the eight-run
stand.
Bhuvneshwar, whose seven-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 11. He was unbeaten, as was Kartik, who did not face a ball.
PWI, who scored 143 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs, had no
reason to be in seventh heaven.
Pathan, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 23.
Kallis, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 16. He picked up a wicket.
Bhatia, Abdulla and Narine bowled four overs apiece. The West Indian’s
spell included a maiden. They conceded 27, 26, and 13, respectively.
De Lange, who bowled four overs, conceded 34. He picked up three scalps.
