Hussey shines; KXIP beat Hyderabad

KXIP made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – David Miller and Ramesh Powar made way for Gurkeerat Singh Mann and Ryan Harris.

DC (Shar)made four Ch(risti)anges to their playing (Dani)eleven – Harris, Jean-Paul Duminy, Ankit and Ashish Reddy made way for Daniel, Akshath Reddy, Abhishek Jhunjhunwala and Dale Steyn.

On winning the toss, Kumar Sangakkara, DC’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 47, and lost a wicket.

Parthiv Patel, whose 16-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 18. Half-a-dozen overs into the match, he was caught by Mann. Azhar Mahmood broke the 47-run stand.

Sangakkara, who faced four balls, scored a run. An over later, he was caught by Mahmood. Parvinder Awana broke the two-run stand.

DC scored 50 off 7.1 overs (43 balls). KXIP had conceded three extras at that point.

Shikhar Dhawan’s half-century – which included three boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 36 balls.

DC scored 100 off a dozen overs (72 balls). KXIP had conceded three extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 30 balls. While Dhawan’s contribution to the partnership was 23, White’s C(amer)ontribution to it was nine. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Dhawan, whose 50-ball innings included four boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 71. Ten overs after Sangakkara’s dismissal, he was caught by Awana. Praveen Kumar broke the 96-run partnership.

DC scored 150 off 17.3 overs (106 balls). KXIP had conceded eight extras at that point.

White’s half-century – which included seven boundaries – came off 35 balls.

He eventually scored 67 off 41 balls, which included eight boundaries and a six. He was unbeaten.

Christian, whose 10-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, scored 24. Seventeen balls after Dhawan’s dismissal, he was caught by Ryan. Mahmood broke the 44-run stand.

Akshath, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.

KXIP eventually conceded nine extras. DC scored 190 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.

David Hussey, KXIP’s skipper and the player of the match, bowled a wicketless over, conceded 14.

Piyush Chawla, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 27.

Ryan, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 32.

Awana and Praveen bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 41, the latter conceded 31.

Mahmood, who bowled four overs, conceded 39. He picked up a couple of scalps.

Nitin, who faced 10 balls, scored just three. Fourteen ballS(ain)into the chase, he was caught by Sangakkara. Needless to say, Christian was in seventh heaven.

Although his innings included a couple of boundaries, Shaun Marsh had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored 11. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Sangakkara. Christian broke the 19-run stand.

KXIP scored 50 off 6.4 overs (40 balls). DC had conceded three extras at that point.

Mandeep Singh, whose 20-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 28. Sixteen balls after Marsh’s dismissal, he was caught by Christian. Manpreet Gony broke the 30-run stand.

KXIP scored 100 off 12.1 overs (73 balls). DC had conceded three extras at that point.

Mahmood, whose 20-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 31. Thirty balls after Mandeep’s dismissal, he was stumped by Patel. Amit Mishra broke the 44-run stand.

Hussey’s half-century – which included four boundaries and as many sixes – came off 27 balls.

He eventually scored 65 off 35 balls, which included the aforementioned number of boundaries, in addition to five sixes.

Chitnis, whose (Siddhar)thirteen-innings included a boundary, scored 11. Twenty-three balls after Mahmood’s dismissal, he was caught by Patel. Steyn broke the 41-run stand.

Chawla, who faced three balls, scored eight. His runs came by way of boundaries. Three balls later, he was caught by White. Steyn broke the eight-run stand.  

KXIP scored 150 off 16.5 overs (101 balls). DC had conceded four extras at that point.

Mann, whose 12-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, scored 29. He was unbeaten.

DC eventually conceded eight extras. KXIP, who scored 194 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs, won by four wickets.

Jhunjhunwala bowled an over, conceding 13. He was wicketless, as was T P Sudhindra, who bowled four overs, conceding 47.

Mishra bowled three overs, conceding 31. He picked up a wicket, as did Gony, who bowled four overs, conceding 40.

Christian and Steyn bowled four overs each, picking up two scalps apiece. While the former conceded 31, the latter conceded 26.
