RR made a couple of Chan(dila)ges to their playing eleven – Dishant Yagnik and Pankaj Singh made way for Shreevats Goswami and Ajit.
PWI made five changes to their playing (Micha)eleven – Mohnish Mishra,
Clarke, Manish Pandey, Alfonso Thomas and Krishnakant Upadhyay made way for Sourav
Ganguly (who was leading the team), Jesse Ryder, Callum Ferguson, Murali Kartik
and Ashish Nehra.
On winning the toss, Rahul Dravid, RR’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of RR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 45, and lost a wicket.
Dravid, whose 20-ball (Rob)innings included four boundaries, scored 21.
Twenty-seven balls into the match, he was caught by Uthappa. Nehra broke the
29-run stand.
RR scored 50 off seven overs (42 balls). PWI had conceded a couple of
extras at that point.
The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 34 balls. While Ajinkya Rahane’s
contribution to the partnership was 21, the contribution of Shane Watson, the
player of the match, to it was 31. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.
RR scored 100 off 12.5 overs (77 balls). PWI had conceded a couple of
extras at that point.
Watson’s half-century – which included four boundaries and as many sixes
– came off 26 balls.
He eventually scored 58 off 31 balls, which included half-a-dozen
boundaries, in addition to the aforementioned number of sixes. Sixty balls
after Dravid’s dismissal, Nehra broke the 94-run partnership.
Rahane’s half-century – which included five boundaries – came off 40
balls.
RR scored 150 off 17.2 overs (104 balls). PWI had conceded three extras
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Brad Hodge, who faced 14 balls, scored as many. Twenty-three balls after
Watson’s dismissal, he was caught by Sourav Ganguly, PWI’s skipper. Nehra broke
the 33-run stand.
Rahane eventually scored 61 off 47 balls, which included seven
boundaries. Half-a-dozen balls later, Angelo Mathews broke the run-a-ball
stand.
Stuart Binny, who faced five balls, scored six. He was unbeaten, as was Johan
Botha, who had a reason to be in seventh heaven – his three-ball innings
included a boundary.
RR scored 170 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.
Ryder, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 15.
Rahul Sharma, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 31.
Kartik and Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While
the former conceded 39, the latter conceded 33.
Mathews, who bowled four overs, conceded 29. He picked up a wicket.
Nehra, who bowled four overs, conceded 23. He picked up three scalps.

Uthappa, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored
half-a-dozen. Seven balls later, he was stumped by Goswami. Chandila broke the
eight-run stand, completing his hat-trick.
Anustup Majumdar, whose eight-ball innings included a couple of
boundaries, scored nine. Sixteen balls (Chandi)later, he was caught by the
off-spinner, who broke the 15-run stand.
PWI scored 50 off 8.4 overs (53 balls). RR had conceded three extras at
that point.
Ferguson, whose 26-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored
23. Thirty-two balls after Majumdar’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before
wicket by Botha, who broke the 34-run stand.
Steven Smith, whose 31-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 37.
Twenty-four balls later, he was caught by Hodge. Botha, who broke the 29-run
stand.
PWI scored 100 off 15.2 overs (93 balls). RR had conceded three extras
at that point.
Bhuvneshwar, who faced five balls, scored three. Thirteen balls after
Smith’s dismissal, Shaun Tait broke the 17-run stand.
Mathews, whose 19-ball innings included a boundary, scored 23.
Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Rahane. Watson broke the four-run
stand.
Kartik, who faced nine balls, scored eight. He was unbeaten.
Sharma, who faced three balls, didn’t open his account. Four balls after
Mathews’ dismissal, he was caught by Rahane. Watson broke the two-run stand.
Nehra, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine. He was
unbeaten.
RR eventually conceded four extras. PWI, who scored 125 for the loss of
nine wickets off 20 overs, lost by 45 runs.
Binny bowled two overs, conceding 17. He was unbeaten, as was Siddharth
Trivedi, who bowled three overs, conceding 24.
Tait bowled four overs, conceding 25. He picked up a wicket.
Watson bowled three overs, conceding 19. He picked up a couple of
wickets, as did Botha, who bowled four overs, conceding 25.
Chandila bowled four overs, conceding 13. He picked up four scalps.
