CSK made one change to their playing eleven – Shadab Jakati made way for Yo Mahesh.
DD made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Andre Russell and Shahbaz
Nadeem made way for Roelof van der Merwe and Umesh Yadav.
On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 27, and four wickets.
Virender Sehwag, DD’s skipper, faced a couple of balls, scoring four.
His runs came by way of a boundary. Five balls into the match, Ben Hilfenhaus,
the player of the match, broke the run-a-ball stand.
David Warner, whose nine-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight.
Eight balls later, he was caught by Ravichandran Ashwin. Needless to say,
Hilfenhaus was in seventh heaven.
Naman Ojha, who faced 11 balls, scored just three. Seventeen balls
later, he was caught by Dhoni. Hilfenhaus broke the 12-run stand.
The fourth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Jayawardene, whose
10-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. A couple of balls (Mahe)later,
he was caught Michael Hussey off the bowling of Albie Morkel.
DD scored 50 off 9.2 overs (56 balls). CSK had conceded four extras at
that point.
Venugopal Rao, whose 24-ball innings included a couple of sixes, scored
27. Forty-eight balls after Jayawardene’s dismissal, he was caught by Albie.
Ashwin broke the 48-run stand.
DD scored 100 off 18.4 overs (112 balls). The number of extras had
conceded at that point gave CSK no reason to be in seventh heaven. That was, incidentally,
the number of extras they eventually conceded.
Yogesh Nagar, whose 47-ball innings included a boundary and a six,
scored 44. He was unbeaten, as was Irfan Pathan, who faced 17 balls, scoring
13.
DD scored 114 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.
Ravindra Jadeja, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 11.
Jakati, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 20.
Dwayne Bravo, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 22.
Ashwin and Albie bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece.
While the former conceded 17, the latter conceded 15.
Hilfenhaus, who bowled four overs, conceded 27. He picked up three
scalps.
The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 45, without the loss of
a wicket.
CSK’s openers scored 50 off 6.3 overs (39 balls). DD had conceded an extra
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded. While Hussey’s contribution to the partnership was 30, Murali Vijay’s
contribution to it was 19.
Hussey, whose 32-ball innings included five boundaries and a six,
eventually scored 38. Sixty-one balls into the chase, he was caught by
Jayawardene. Pathan broke the 75-run partnership.
CSK scored 100 off 13.5 overs (83 balls).
Vijay, whose 40-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, eventually
scored 48. He was unbeaten, as was Suresh Raina, who scored 28. His 20-ball innings
included a boundary and a couple of sixes.
CSK, who scored 115 for the loss of a wicket off 15.2 overs, won by nine
wickets with 28 balls to spare.
Yadav and van der Merwe bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the
former conceded 24, the latter conceded 17.
Varun Aaron bowled 3.2 wicketless overs, conceding 28.
Morne Morkel bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 31.
Pathan bowled two overs, conceded 15. He picked up the only wicket to fall.
