KKR made three changes to their playing eleven – Manvinder Bisla, Shakib Al Hasan and Brett Lee made way for Brendon McCullum, Lakshmipathy Balaji and Marchant de Lange.
CSK made changes to their playing (Mork)eleven – Albie made way for Faf du
Plessis.
On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 50, without the loss of
a wicket.
KKR’s openers scored 50 off 5.3 overs (33 balls). KKR had conceded an
extra at that point. While the contribution of Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, to
the partnership was 36, McCullum’s contribution to it was 13.
Gambhir’s half-century – which included five boundaries and three sixes
– came off 31 balls.
KKR’s openers put on 99. McCullum, whose 29-ball innings included four
boundaries and a six, eventually scored 37. Sixty-nine balls into the match,
Srikkanth Anirudha and Dhoni ran him out.
KKR scored 100 off 11.5 overs (71 balls). CSK had conceded an extra at
that point.
Gambhir, whose 43-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, in addition
to the aforementioned number of sixes, eventually scored 62. Four balls after
McCullum’s dismissal, Shadab Jakati broke the one-run stand.
Jacques Kallis, who faced nine balls, scored four. Fifteen balls later,
he was caught by Ravichandran Ashwin. Jakati broke the 11-run stand.
Yusuf Pathan, whose eight-ball innings included a six, scored 11. Fourteen
balls later, he was caught by Dwayne Bravo. Ashwin broke the 16-run stand.
Manoj Tiwary, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary, scored a dozen.
A couple of balls later, he was caught by Bravo. Ravindra Jadeja broke the
one-run stand.
KKR scored 150 off 19.1 overs (115 balls). CSK had conceded three extras
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Debabrata Das, whose innings included a couple of boundaries and a six,
scored 19. He was unbea‘ten’.
Laxmi Ratan Shukla, whose six-ball innings included a six, scored nine.
Thirteen balls after Tiwary’s dismissal, he was caught by Suresh Raina. Ben
Hilfenhaus broke the 28-run stand.
Rajat Bhatia, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.
KKR scored 158 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.
Raina, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 17. He was wicketless, as
was Bravo, who bowled three overs, conceding 22.
Hilfenhaus, who bowled three overs, conceded 26. He picked up a wicket,
as did Jadeja and Ashwin, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former
conceded 39, the latter conceded 26.
Jakati, who bowled four overs, conceded 26. He picked up a couple of scalps.

balls later, he was dismissed by Narine.

The third-wicket pair put on 13. Raina, whose 10-ball innings included a
boundary, scored eight. Sixteen balls after Vijay’s dismissal, McCullum and

Du Plessis, who faced 16 balls, scored 13. Twenty-three balls later, he
was caught by Tiwary. Bhatia broke the 17-run stand.
CSK scored 150 off 19 overs (114 balls).
Dhoni, whose 21-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored
28. Thirteen balls after du Plessis’ dismissal, Bhatia broke the 24-run stand.
Bravo, who scored 11, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – his innings
included a six. He was unbeaten, as was Jadeja, who faced a couple of balls,
scoring three.
CSK, who scored 160 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs, won by
five wickets.
Pathan bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceding 14.
De Lange and Kallis bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the
former conceded 37, the latter conceded 25.
Balaji bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 33.
Bhatia and Narine bowled four overs each, picking up two scalps apiece.
While the former conceded 33, the latter conceded 14.
