RCB made one change to their playing eleven – Syed (Moham)made way for K
P Appanna.
On winning the toss, Steven Smith, PWI’s skipper, chose to field.
Before the start of RCB’s innings, there was an interruption due to
rain.
The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 66, without the loss of
a wicket.
RCB’s openers put on 50 off 5.4 overs (35 balls). PWI had conceded five extras
at that point. While the contribution of Chris Gayle, the player of the match,
to the partnership was 38, Tillakaratne Dilshan’s contribution to it was 11.
Gayle’s half-century – which included two boundaries and half-a-dozen
sixes – came off 24 balls.
He eventually scored 57 off 31 balls, which included three boundaries,
in addition to the aforementioned number of sixes. Fifty-two balls into the
match, he was caught by Pandey. Angelo Mathews broke the 80-run partnership.
Virat Kohli, RCB’s skipper, scored nine off a dozen balls, which
included a boundary. Eighteen balls later, he was caught by Smith. Sharma broke
the 15-run stand.
RCB scored 100 off 13.1 overs (80 balls). The number of extras they had
conceded at that point gave PWI no reason to be in seventh heaven.
Dilshan’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a
six – came off 40 balls.
The third-wicket pair put on 43. Dilshan eventually scored 53 off 44
balls. Thirty-five balls after Kohli’s dismissal, Thomas ran him out.
RCB scored 150 off 18.1 overs (110 balls). PWI had conceded eight extras
at that point.
Saurabh Tiwary, whose 30-ball innings included three boundaries and a
six, scored 36. He was unbeaten, as was A B de Villiers, who scored nine off
four balls, which included a six.
PWI eventually conceded nine extras. RCB scored 173 for the loss of
three wickets off 20 overs.
Michael Clarke bowled an over, conceding five. He was wicketless, as
were Thomas, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Upadhyay, who bowled four overs apiece. They
conceded 46, 40, and 33, respectively.
Mathews bowled three overs, conceding 14. He picked up a scalp, as did
Sharma, who bowled four overs, conceding 31.

Mishra scored four off as many balls. His runs came by way of a
boundary. He was trapped leg be‘four’ wicket by Zaheer Khan, who broke the
four-run stand.
The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Pandey, who faced a couple
of balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls later, he was dismissed by
Khan.
Michael Clarke, whose 10-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 13. Seventeen balls later, he was caught by Saurabh Tiwary. Vinay Kumar
broke the 18-run stand.
PWI scored 50 off half-a-dozen overs (36 balls). RCB had conceded an extra
at that point.
The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 27 balls. While Robin’s contribution
to the (Uthap)partnership was 33, Anustup Majumdar’s contribution to it was 16.
Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.
Uthappa, whose 23-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, eventually
scored 38. Twenty-eight balls after Clarke’s dismissal, he was stumped by de
Villiers. Muttiah Muralitharan broke the 50-run partnership.
Mathews, who faced 10 balls, scored four. Sixteen balls later, he was
stumped by de Villiers. Appanna broke the 12-run stand.
PWI scored 100 off 13.5 overs (83 balls). RCB had conceded a couple of extras
at that point.
Majumdar, whose 26-ball innings included four boundaries, eventually
scored 31. Eighteen balls later, he was caught by Khan. Harshal Patel broke the
run-a-ball stand.
Smith, whose 25-ball innings included a boundary, scored 24. He was
unbeaten.
Bhuvneshwar, who faced four balls, scored a couple. Ten balls after Majumdar’s
dismissal, Muralitharan broke the six-run stand.
Although his six-ball innings included a boundary, Thomas had no reason
to be in seventh heaven – nine balls later, Vinay broke the 10-run stand.
Sharma, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls
later, Vinay broke the run-a-ball stand.
Upadhyay, whose eight-ball innings included a six, scored 11. He was
unbeaten.
RCB eventually conceded four extras. PWI, who scored 138 for the loss of
nine wickets off 20 overs, lost by 35 runs.
Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.
Patel and Appanna picked up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded
36, the latter conceded 30.
Khan and Muralitharan picked up two wickets apiece. While the former
conceded 21, the latter conceded 16.
Vinay conceded 32, picking up three scalps.
