Chennai disappointed; Dravid-led RR triumph

RR made a couple of Chan(dila)ges to their playing eleven – Ajit and Sreesanth made way for Stuart Binny and Vikramjeet Malik.

CSK made no changes to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, Rahul Dravid, RR’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 37, without the loss of a wicket.

CSK’s openers put on 50 off 7.4 overs (46 balls). RR had conceded four extras at that point. While Michael Hussey’s contribution to the partnership was 25, Murali Vijay’s contribution to it was 24.

Michael Hussey, whose run-a-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, eventually scored 40. Sixty-nine balls into the match, Binny broke the 83-run partnership.

Suresh Raina, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Four balls later, he was caught by Sanju Samson. Kevon Cooper broke the one-run stand.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, faced three balls, scoring a couple. Four balls later, he was caught by Shane Watson, the player of the match. Cooper broke the three-run stand.

CSK scored 100 off 15 overs (90 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave RR no reason to be in seventh heaven.

Vijay’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries – came off 49 balls.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 24. Vijay eventually scored 55 0ff 50 balls. Twenty-seven balls after Dhoni’s dismissal, Dishant Yagnik ran him out.

Ravindra Jadeja, who faced 14 balls, scored a dozen. He was unbeaten, as was Dwayne Bravo, who scored 23 off 11 balls, which included four boundaries.

RR eventually conceded eight extras. CSK scored 141 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.

Siddharth Trivedi, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 22.

Malik, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 19.

James Faulkner and Watson bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 23 apiece.

Binny, who bowled three overs, conceded 17. He picked up a wicket.

Cooper, who bowled four overs, conceded 23. He picked up a couple of scalps.

Samson, who faced five balls, failed to get off the (Shar)mark. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Mohit broke the one-run stand.

Dravid, whose 28-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 22. Twenty-eight balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Chris Morris broke the  

RR scored 50 off 10.1 overs (61 balls). CSK hadn’t conceded any extras at that point.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 23 balls. While Watson’s contribution to the partnership was 23, Binny’s contribution to it was 29. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

RR scored 100 off 13.2 overs (80 balls). CSK had conceded an extra at that point. In fact, they didn’t concede any more extras.

Watson’s half-century – which included a couple of boundaries and half-a-dozen sixes – came off 25 balls.

He eventually scored 70 off 34 balls, which included the aforementioned number of sixes, and as many boundaries. Forty-five balls after Dravid’s dismissal, Bravo broke the 93-run partnership.

Binny, whose 23-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 41. He was unbeaten, as was Brad Hodge, who faced a ball, failing to get off the mark.

RR, who scored 144 for the loss of five wickets off 17.1 overs, lost by five wickets with 17 balls to spare.

Ravichandran Ashwin bowled an over, conceding 23. He was wicketless, as was Jadeja, who bowled seven balls, conceding nine.

Bravo bowled three overs, conceding 35. He picked up a wicket, as did Morris and Mohit, who bowled four overs each. While the former conceded 36, the latter conceded 21.

Holder bowled four overs, conceding 20. He picked up two scalps.
