Dhoni shines; CSK beat Hyderabad

CSK made no changes to their playing eleven.

SRH made three changes to their playing eleven – Akshath Reddy, Biplab Samantray, and Thisara Perera made way for Shikhar Dhawan, Twenty20 debutant Thalaivan Sargunam, and Daren Sammy.

The first Powerplay of SRH’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 40, and lost three wickets.

Quinton de Kock, who faced three balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Three balls into the (Shar)match, he was caught by Murali Vijay. Mohit broke the four-run stand.

The second-wicket pair put on eight. Hanuma Vihari, who faced three balls, scored a couple. Nine balls later, Suresh Raina ran him out.

White, who faced three balls, scored a couple. Seventeen balls later, he was caught by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper. Mohit broke the 25-run stand.

SRH scored 50 off 7.1 overs (43 balls). CSK had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Amit Mishra, whose 21-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 15. Thirty balls after White’s dismissal, he was caught by Dwayne. Ravichandran Ashwin Br(av)oke the 24-run stand.

Eighty-one balls (13.3 overs) into the match, Dhawan, who was batting on 44, was unbeaten. SRH had scored 83 for the loss of four wickets at that point. He returned 23 balls later, when they had scored 116 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets.

Sargunam, who faced 17 balls, scored 10. Thirty-four balls after Mishra’s dismissal (and a dozen balls after Dhawan retired), he was caught by Bravo, who broke the 37-run stand.

SRH scored 100 off 16 overs (96 balls). CSK had conceded eight extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Dhawan’s half-century – which included eight boundaries – came off 41 balls.

He eventually scored 63 off 45 balls, and was unbeaten.

Sammy, whose 12-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 19. Eleven balls after Sargunam’s disM(orr)issal, he was caught by Chris. Bravo broke the 18-run stand.

SRH scored 150 off 19.4 overs (118 balls).

Ashish Reddy, whose 16-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and three sixes, scored 36. He was unbeaten.

SRH scored 159 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.

Ravindra Jadeja, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded eight.

Morris, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 34.

Jason Holder, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 31.

Ashwin, who bowled four overs, conceded 21. He picked up a wicket.

Bravo and Mohit bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of scalps apiece. While the former conceded 37, the latter conceded 33.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 58, without the loss of a wicket.

CSK’s openers scored 50 off 5.2 overs (32 balls). SRH had conceded three extras at that point. While Michael Hussey’s contribution to the partnership was 33, Vijay’s contribution to it was 16.

Vijay, whose 22-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, eventually scored 18. Forty-five balls into the chase, he was stumped by de Kock. Mishra broke the 65-run partnership.

Raina, whose 13-ball innings included a boundary, scored 16. Twenty-four balls later, he was caught by Sammy. Mishra broke the 23-run stand.

CSK scored 100 off 13.4 overs (82 balls). SRH had conceded four extras at that point.

Dhoni’s half-century – which included five boundaries and three sixes – came off 32 balls.

He eventually scored 67 off 37 balls, which included seven boundaries and four sixes. He was unbeaten.

Bravo, who faced 16 balls, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 24 balls later, he was caught by Ashish. Ishant Sharma broke the 31-run stand.

Jadeja, who faced four balls, scored a run. Nine balls later, he was caught by Mishra. Dale Steyn broke the 15-run stand.

CSK scored 150 off 19.2 overs (117 balls). SRH had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Morris, who faced a ball, failed to get off the mark. He was unbeaten.

CSK, who scored 160 for the loss of five wickets off 19.4 overs, won by five wickets with a couple of balls to spare.

Ashish, who bowled four wicketless balls, conceded 15.

Sammy, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 31.

Karn Sharma bowled four wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded eight.

Steyn and Ishant bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 45, the latter conceded 34.
