On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, KXIP’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 45, without the loss of a wicket.

Mandeep Singh, whose 20-ball (Eo)innings included five boundaries, scored 25. Tihrty-seven balls into the match, he was caught by Morgan. Jacques Kallis, the player of the match, broke the 45-run stand.

Mann, whose 15-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 28. He was unbeaten.

KKR eventually conceded five extras. KXIP scored 149 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.

Senanayake and Sunil Narine bowled for wicketless overs apiece. While the former, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 29, the latter conceded 22.

Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored eight. His runs came by way of boundaries. Eight balls into the chase, Mahmood broke the 10-run stand.

The second-wicket pair did not get off the mark. Yusuf Pathan, who faced a ball, failed to open his account. The next ball, he was caught by Gilchrist off the bowling of Mahmood.

KKR scored 50 off 6.2 overs (38 balls). KXIP hadn’t conceded any extra at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 41 balls. While Bisla’s contribution to the partnership was 17, Kallis’ contribution to it was 29. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.
