RR made one change to their playing eleven – Rahul Shukla made way for Sachin Baby.
SRH made three changes to their playing eleven – Quinton de Kock, Cameron
White, and Thalaivan Sargunam made way for Akshath Reddy and the Sri Lankans,
Kumar Sangakkara (who was leading the team, and chose to bat on winning the
toss), and Thisara Perera.
The first Powerplay of SRH’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 29, and lost five wickets.
Akshath, who faced five balls, scored a couple. Five balls into the
match, he was caught by Shane Watson. Ajit Chandila broke the two-run stand.
Sangakkara, who faced four balls, scored as many. His runs came by way
of a boundary. Five balls later, he was caught by Watson. James Faulkner, the
player of the match, broke the four-run stand.

couple of balls later, he was caught by Ajinkya Rahane. Faulkner broke the
one-run stand.

nine balls, scored four. Nine balls later, he was caught by Dishant Yagnik off
the bowling of Cooper.
SRH scored 50 off as many balls (8.2 overs). The number of extras they had
conceded at that point gave RR no reason to be in seventh heaven.
The seventh-wicket pair put on 50 off 40 balls. While Daren Sammy’s contribution
to the partnership was 26, Amit Mishra’s contribution to it was 19. Extras’
contribution to the partnership was eight.

broke the 27-run stand.
Sammy’s half-century – which included seven boundaries and a six – came
off 37 balls.
He eventually scored 60 off 41 balls, which included eight boundaries, in
addition to the six. Faulkner had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he trapped
him leg before wicket, breaking the 13-run stand.
Dale Steyn, whose eight-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and
a six, scored 18. He was unbeaten, as was Ishant Sharma, who didn’t face a

Rahane, who faced nine balls, scored a run. Fifteen balls into the
chase, he was caught by Sangakkara. Needless to say, Steyn was in seventh heaven.
RR scored 50 off 10 overs (60 balls). SRH had conceded a couple of extras
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 48 balls. While the contribution of
Rahul Dravid, RR’s skipper, to the partnership was 21, Watson’s contribution to
it was 31. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.
Watson, whose 53-ball innings included 13 boundaries and four sixes, eventually
scored 98. He was unbeaten, as was Binny, who eventually scored nine off 10
balls, which included a boundary.
RR, who scored 146 for the loss of a couple of wickets off 17.5 overs, won
by eight wickets with 13 balls to spare.
Karn, who bowled 11 wicketless balls, conceded 24.
