Hyderabad lose to Dravid-led RR

RR made one change to their playing eleven – Rahul Shukla made way for Sachin Baby.

SRH made three changes to their playing eleven – Quinton de Kock, Cameron White, and Thalaivan Sargunam made way for Akshath Reddy and the Sri Lankans, Kumar Sangakkara (who was leading the team, and chose to bat on winning the toss), and Thisara Perera.

The first Powerplay of SRH’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 29, and lost five wickets.

Akshath, who faced five balls, scored a couple. Five balls into the match, he was caught by Shane Watson. Ajit Chandila broke the two-run stand.

Sangakkara, who faced four balls, scored as many. His runs came by way of a boundary. Five balls later, he was caught by Watson. James Faulkner, the player of the match, broke the four-run stand.

Shikhar Dhawan, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Ajinkya Rahane. Faulkner broke the one-run stand.

Karn Sharma, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Ten balls later, he was caught by Brad Hodge. Faulkner broke the eight-run stand.

Thisara, who faced four balls, scored as many. His runs came by way of a boundary. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Kevon Cooper. Chandila broke the four-run stand.

The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Hanuma Vihari, who faced nine balls, scored four. Nine balls later, he was caught by Dishant Yagnik off the bowling of Cooper.

SRH scored 50 off as many balls (8.2 overs). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave RR no reason to be in seventh heaven.

The seventh-wicket pair put on 50 off 40 balls. While Daren Sammy’s contribution to the partnership was 26, Amit Mishra’s contribution to it was 19. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was eight.

Mishra, whose 28-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 21. Forty-eight balls after Vihari’s dismissal, he was caught by Cooper. Faulkner broke the 58-run partnership.

SRH scored 100 off 16.1 overs (97 balls). RR had conceded 10 extras at that point.

Ashish Reddy, whose 11-ball innings included a boundary, scored 14. Twenty-two balls after Mishra’s dismissal, he was caught by Rahane. Stuart Binny broke the 27-run stand.

Sammy’s half-century – which included seven boundaries and a six – came off 37 balls.

He eventually scored 60 off 41 balls, which included eight boundaries, in addition to the six. Faulkner had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he trapped him leg before wicket, breaking the 13-run stand.

Dale Steyn, whose eight-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 18. He was unbeaten, as was Ishant Sharma, who didn’t face a ball.

RR eventually conceded 11 extras. SRH, who scored 144 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs.

Watson, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 16. He was wicketless, as was Siddharth Trivedi, who bowled three overs, conceding 26.

Cooper and Binny bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 42, the latter conceded 25.

Chandila, who bowled three overs, conceded 13. He picked up a couple of wickets.

Faulkner, who bowled four overs, conceded 20. He picked up five scalps.

The first Powerplay of RR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 30, and lost a wicket.

Rahane, who faced nine balls, scored a run. Fifteen balls into the chase, he was caught by Sangakkara. Needless to say, Steyn was in seventh heaven.

RR scored 50 off 10 overs (60 balls). SRH had conceded a couple of extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 48 balls. While the contribution of Rahul Dravid, RR’s skipper, to the partnership was 21, Watson’s contribution to it was 31. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Watson’s half-century – which included seven boundaries and a six – came off 39 balls.

Dravid, whose 35-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, scored 36. Sixty-two balls after Rahane’s dismissal, he was caught by Vihari. Thisara broke the 74-run partnership.

RR scored 100 off 14.5 overs (89 balls).

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 26 balls. While Watson’s contribution to the partnership was 42, Binny’s contribution to it was eight. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Watson, whose 53-ball innings included 13 boundaries and four sixes, eventually scored 98. He was unbeaten, as was Binny, who eventually scored nine off 10 balls, which included a boundary.

RR, who scored 146 for the loss of a couple of wickets off 17.5 overs, won by eight wickets with 13 balls to spare.

Karn, who bowled 11 wicketless balls, conceded 24.

Mishra, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 20.

Ishant and Sammy bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 35, the latter conceded 17.

Thisara and Steyn bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 34, the latter, whose spell including a maiden, conceded 15.
