Russell, and Shahbaz Nadeem made way for Manprit Juneja, Johan Botha, and
Ashish Nehra.
KXIP made three (Pomersba)changes to their playing eleven – Azhar
Mahmood, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, and Manpreet Gony made way for Luke, Harmeet
Singh, the player of the match, and Bhargav Bhatt.
On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, KXIP’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 40, and lost a couple
of wickets.
Mahela Jayawardene, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored
four. Four balls into the match, he was caught by David Hussey. Praveen Kumar
broke the run-a-ball stand.
Roelof van der Merwe, whose nine-ball innings included a boundary,
scored eight. Sixteen balls later, he was caught by Mandeep Singh. Parvinder
Awana broke the 18-run stand.
Virender Sehwag, whose 21-ball innings included a couple of boundaries
and a six, scored 23. Twenty-two balls later, he was caught by Mandeep. Harmeet
broke the 23-run stand.
DD scored 50 off eight overs (48 balls). KXIP had conceded three extras
at that point.
Juneja, whose 20-ball innings included a boundary, scored 14. Thirty-nine
balls after Sehwag’s dismissal, he was caught by Awana. Harmeet broke the
run-a-ball stand.
Kedar Jadhav, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. A
couple of balls later, he was caught by Mandeep. Harmeet broke the one-run
stand.
Johan Botha, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Five balls
later, he was caught by David Miller. Bhatt broke the four-run stand.
DD scored 100 off 17.1 overs (103 balls). KXIP had conceded half-a-dozen
extras at that point.
David Warner, whose 36-ball innings included four boundaries and a six,
scored 40. Sixteen balls after Botha’s dismissal, Praveen broke the 14-run
stand.
Irfan Pathan, whose 17-ball innings included a boundary, scored 14. He
was unbeaten, as was Ajit Agarkar, who faced nine balls, scored a run.
The number of extras they eventually conceded gave KXIP no reason to be
in seventh heaven.
DD scored 120 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs.
Piyush Chawla, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 17. He was
wicketless, as was David Hussey, who bowled four overs, conceding 14.
Bhatt, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 11. He picked up a wicket,
as did Awana, who bowled four overs, including a maiden. He conceded 21.
Praveen, who bowled four overs, conceded 29. He picked up a couple of
wickets.
Harmeet, who bowled four overs, conceded 24. He picked up three scalps.
The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory
Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 56, and lost
three wickets.
Gilchrist, whose three-ball innings included a boundary, scored
half-a-dozen. Three balls into the chase, he was caught by Botha. Irfan broke
the six-run stand.
Pomersbach, whose 10-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 18.
Twenty-five balls later, van der Merwe broke the 44-run stand.
The third-wicket pair did not get off the mark. Mandeep, whose 15-ball
innings included five boundaries, scored 24. The next ball, Warner ran him out.
KXIP scored 50 off 4.3 overs (27 balls). DD had conceded a couple of extras
at that point.
Miller, whose 39-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 34. He
was unbeaten.
Manan Vohra, whose 11-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight.
Twenty-seven balls after Mandeep’s dismissal, he was caught by Botha, who broke
the 20-run stand.
David Hussey, whose 21-ball innings included a boundary and six, scored
20. Thirty-nine balls later, he was caught by Botha. Nehra broke the 40-run
stand.
KXIP scored 100 off 13.5 overs (83 balls). DD had conceded half-a-dozen
extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they
eventually conceded.
Chawla, whose three-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. He
was unbeaten.
KXIP, who scored 121 for the loss of five wickets off 17 overs, won by
five wickets with three overs to spare.
Agarkar, who bowled an over, conceded four. He was wicketless, as was
Umesh Yadav, who bowled three overs, conceding 19.
Irfan, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 26. He picked up a wicket.
Nehra, who bowled three overs, conceded 28. He picked up a wicket.
Botha and van der Merwe bowled four overs each, picking up a scalp
apiece. While the former conceded 23, the latter, whose spell including a
maiden, conceded 17.
