Kolkata disappointed; Rohit-led MI win

MI made one change to their playing eleven – Pawan Suyal and made way for Abu Nechim.

KKR made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Sumit Narwal and Sachithra Senanayake made way for Ryan McLaren and Lakshmipathy Balaji.

On winning the toss, Rohit Sharma, MI’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 41, without the loss of a wicket.

MI’s openers put on 50 off seven overs (42 balls). KKR had conceded four extras at that point. While Dwayne Smith’s contribution to the partnership was 20, the contribution of Sachin Tendulkar, the player of the match, to it was 26.

Nine overs into the match, the floodlights failed. MI had scored 63 without the loss of a wicket at that point. While Dwayne Smith had scored 30, Tendulkar was batting on 29.

Tendulkar, whose 28-ball innings included eight boundaries, eventually scored 48. Thirteen balls into the match, Rajat Bhatia broke the 93-run partnership.

Dwayne Smith, whose 53-ball innings included seven boundaries, eventually scored 47. Three balls (Abdul)later, he was caught by McLaren. Iqbal broke the six-run stand.

MI scored 100 off 13.4 overs (82 balls). KKR had conceded four extras at that point.

Dinesh Karthik, whose 18-ball innings included three boundaries and a couple of sixes, scored 34. He was unbeaten.

Rohit, whose 11-ball (Eo)innings included a boundary and a six, scored 16. Twenty-two balls after Dwayne Smith’s dismissal, he was caught by Morgan. McLaren broke the 31-run stand.

Kieron Pollard, who faced four balls, scored as many. His runs came by way of a boundary. Four balls later, he was caught by Sunil Narine. McLaren broke the run-a-ball stand.

The fifth-wicket pair put on a run. Ambati Rayudu didn’t face a ball. The next ball, Balaji and Manvinder Bisla ran him out.

The sixth-wicket pair put on nine. Harbhajan Singh didn’t face a ball. Three balls later, Yusuf Pathan ran him out.

MI scored 150 off 19.2 overs (116 balls). KKR had conceded five extras at that point.

Mitchell Johnson, whose six-ball innings included a six, was unbea‘ten’.

KKR eventually conceded 11 extras. MI scored 170 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.

Jacques Kallis and Balaji bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 21, the latter had a reason to be in seventh heaven – his spell included a maiden.

Narine, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 29.

Bhatia, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 22. He picked up a wicket, as did Abdulla, who bowled four overs, conceding 30.

McLaren, who bowled four overs, conceded 60. He picked up a couple of scalps.

The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 38, and lost a wicket.

Gautam Gambhir, MI’s skipper, faced a couple of balls, failing to get off the mark. Four balls later, Johnson broke the one-run stand.

Bisla, whose 19-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 17. Thirty-three balls later, he was caught by Dinesh. Pragyan Ojha broke the 37-run stand.

KKR scored 50 off 7.3 overs (45 balls). MI had conceded an extra at that point.

Yusuf, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 13. Fourteen balls after Bisla’s dismissal, Pragyan broke the 16-run stand.

Kallis, whose 26-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 24. Eight balls later, he was caught by Nechim. Harbhajan broke the four-run stand.

Morgan, who faced 10 balls, scored five. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Rohit. Nechim broke the 19-run stand.

Debabrata, whose 17-ball innings included a couple of boundaries anDas many sixes, scored 23. Ten balls later, he was caught by Harbhajan, who broke the 12-run stand.

The seventh-wicket pair failed to get off the mark. McLaren, who faced three balls, scored a run. The next ball, Rohit and Dinesh ran him out.

Bhatia, who faced five balls, scored four. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Lasith Malinga. Harbhajan broke the eight-run stand.

Abdulla, who faced 11 balls, scored half-a-dozen. He was unbeaten.

KKR scored 100 off 16.5 overs (101 balls). MI had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Narine, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored three. Four balls after Bhatia’s dismissal, he was caught by Dinesh. Needless to say, Johnson was in seventh heaven.

Balaji, who faced three balls, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls later, Malinga broke the one-run stand.

MI eventually conceded nine extras. KKR, who were bundled out for 105 off 18.2 overs, lost by 65 runs.

Nechim, who bowled three overs, conceded 18. He picked up a wicket, as did Malinga, who bowled 3.2 overs, conceding 15.

Pragyan and Johnson bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of scalps apiece. While the former conceded 23, the latter conceded 13.

Harbhajan, who bowled four overs, conceded 27. He picked up three scalps.
