Kolkata lose to Kohli-led RCB

RCB made one change to their playing eleven – Murali Kartik made way for K L Rahul.

KKR made three changes to their playing eleven – Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Brett Lee, and Mohammed Shami made way for Ryan McLaren, Pradeep Sangwan, and Lakshmipathy Balaji.

On winning the toss, Virat Kohli, RCB’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 44, and lost a wicket.

Manvinder Bisla, who faced five balls, scored a run. Seven balls into the match, he was caught by Rahul. Moises Henriques broke the three-run stand.

Thirty-two balls (5.1 overs) into the match, there was a milestone – Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, scored his 250th IPL four.

Thirty-five balls (5.4 overs) into the match, there was another milestone – Jacques Kallis scored his 2,000th IPL run.

KKR scored 50 off 7.3 overs (46 balls). RCB had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 42 balls. While Gambhir’s contribution to the partnership was 34, Kallis’ contribution to it was 16. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Kallis, whose 19-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 16. Forty-three balls after Bisla’s dismissal, he was caught by Henriques. Vinay Kumar broke the 51-run partnership.

Yusuf Pathan, whose 17-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 27. Twenty-eight balls later, he was caught by Vinay. Henriques broke the 41-run stand.

KKR scored 100 off 13.1 overs (80 balls). RCB had conceded four extras at that point.

Gambhir’s half-century – which included seven boundaries – came off 39 balls.

He eventually scored 59 off 46 balls, which included the aforementioned number of boundaries, in addition to a six. Twenty-one balls after Yusuf’s dismissal, he was caught by Vinay, who broke the 29-run stand.

Eoin Morgan, who faced five balls, scored two. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by the substitute, Daniel Christian. Rudra Pratap Singh broke the eight-run stand.

Manoj Tiwary, whose 16-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 23. Four balls later, he was caught by A B de Villiers. Rudra Pratap broke the three-run stand.

The seventh-wicket pair put on 14. McLaren, who faced three balls, scored a couple. Eight balls later, Rudra Pratap ran him out.

The eighth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Although his innings included a couple of boundaries, Rajat Bhatia, who scored 13, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – the next ball, he was dismissed by Rudra Pratap.

KKR scored 150 off 19.4 overs (119 balls). RCB had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Sangwan, who faced a couple of balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. He was unbeaten, as was Sunil Narine, who faced a ball, scoring a run.

KKR scored 154 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Jaydev Unadkat and Muttiah Muralitharan were wicketless. While the former conceded 34, the latter conceded 30.

Vinay and Henriques picked up a couple of wickets apiece. While the former conceded 36, the latter conceded 24.

Rudra Pratap, who conceded 27, picking up three scalps.

The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 43, and lost a wicket.

Mayank Agarwal, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Fifteen balls into the chase, he was caught by Bisla. McLaren broke the 12-run stand.

RCB scored 50 off seven overs (42 balls). KKR had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 36 balls. While the contribution of Chris Gayle, the player of the match, to the partnership was 26, Kohli’s contribution to it was 28. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Kohli, whose 27-ball innings included four boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 35. Forty balls later, he was caught by Morgan. Balaji broke the 63-run partnership.

RCB scored 100 off 11.5 overs (72 balls). KKR had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Gayle’s half-century – which included three boundaries and five sixes – came off 32 balls.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 39 balls. While Gayle’s contribution to the partnership was 35, de Villiers’ contribution to it was 15. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was five.

RCB scored 150 off 17.2 overs (106 balls). KKR had conceded nine extras at that point.

Gayle, whose 50-ball innings included four boundaries and nine sixes, eventually scored 85. He was unbeaten, as was de Villiers, who eventually scored 22. His run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six.

KKR eventually conceded 10 extras. RCB, who scored 158 for the loss of a couple of wickets off 17.3 overs, won by eight wickets with 15 balls to spare.

Bhatia, who bowled an over, conceded 10. He was wicketless.

Sangwan, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 34. He was wicketless.

Kallis and Narine bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the former, whose spell including a maiden, conceded 30, the latter conceded 17.

McLaren, who bowled three overs, conceded 34. He picked up a wicket, as did Balaji, who bowled 3.3 overs, conceding 33.
