Chennai disappointed; Bailey-led KXIP win

CSK made five changes to their playing (Micha)eleven – Hussey, Murali Vijay, Subramaniam Badrinath, Albie Morkel, and Chris Morris made way for Dwayne Smith, Brendon McCullum, Faf du Plessis, Pawan Negi, and Ashish Nehra.

KXIP made nine Cha(wla)nges to their playing (Pat)eleven – Adam Gilchrist, Mandeep Singh, Azhar Mahmood, Shaun Marsh, Manan Vohra, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Piyush, Praveen Kumar, and Sandeep (Shar)made way for Cheteshwar Pujara, Virender Sehwag, Glenn Maxwell (the player of the match), Axar, George Bailey (who was leading the team), Wriddhiman Saha, Mitchell Johnson, Rishi Dhawan, and Lakshmipathy Balaji.

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings -which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 70, without the loss of a wicket.

CSK’s openers put on 50 off 4.3 overs (27 balls). KXIP had conceded nine extras at that point. While Dwayne Smith’s contribution to the partnership was 19, McCullum’s contribution to it was 22.

McCullum’s half-century – which included four boundaries and as many sixes – came off 30 balls.

CSK’s openers put on 100 off 9.3 overs (57 balls). KXIP had conceded a dozen extras at that point. While Dwayne Smith’s contribution to the partnership was 31, McCullum’s contribution to it was 57.

McCullum eventually scored 67 off 45 balls, which included the aforementioned number of boundaries, in addition to five sixes. Seventy-six balls into the match, he was caught by Maxwell. Axar broke the 123-run partnership.

Dwayne Smith’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six – came off 37 balls.

CSK scored 150 off 15.2 overs (92 balls). KXIP had conceded a dozen extras at that point.

Dwayne Smith eventually scored 66 off 43 balls, which included the aforementioned number of boundaries, in addition to three sixes. Twenty-two balls after McCullum’s dismissal, he was caught by Bailey. Balaji broke the 38-run stand.

Suresh Raina, whose 19-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 24. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Sehwag. Parvinder Awana broke the 24-run stand.

CSK scored 200 off 19.3 overs (118 balls). KXIP had conceded 14 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Dhoni, whose 11-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 26. Eight balls later, he was caught by Rishi. Balaji broke the 20-run stand.

Bravo, whose three-ball innings included a six, scored eight. He was unbeaten.

CSK scored 205 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.

Maxwell bowled two wicketless overs, conceding 23.

Rishi bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 21.

Johnson bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 47.

Awana bowled three overs, conceding 35. He picked up a wicket, as did Axar, who bowled four overs, conceding 47.

Balaji, who bowled four overs, conceded 43. He picked up two scalps.

KXIP scored 50 off five overs (30 balls). CSK had conceded an extra at that point.

Axar, who faced three balls, scored a couple. Nine balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Ashwin, who broke the 14-run stand.

KXIP scored 100 off 10.5 overs (65 balls). CSK had conceded three extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 35 balls. While Maxwell’s contribution to the partnership was 30, David Miller’s contribution to it was 20. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Maxwell’s half-century – which included nine boundaries – came off 25 balls.

Maxwell, whose 43-ball innings included 15 boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 95. Sixty-three balls after Axar’s dismissal, Dwayne Smith broke the 115-run partnership.

Miller’s half-century – which included three boundaries and as many sixes – came off 32 balls.

He eventually scored 54 off 37 balls, which included the aforementioned number of boundaries and as many sixes. He was unbeaten.

Bailey, whose innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 17. He was unbea‘ten’.

KXIP scored 200 off 18.4 overs (112 balls). CSK had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

KXIP, who scored 206 for the loss of four wickets off 18.5 overs, had a reason to be in seventh heaven – they won by half-a-dozen wickets.

Mohit Sharma bowled 2.5 wicketless overs, conceding 35.

Negi bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 37.

Ravindra Jadeja bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 43.

Dwayne Smith bowled two overs, conceding 25. He picked up a wicket, as did Nehra, who bowled three overs, conceding 24.

Ashwin bowled four overs, conceding 41. He picked up two scalps.
