Finch-led PWI win; Kolkata disheartened

KKR made no changes to their playing eleven.

PWI made five changes to their playing eleven – Abhishek Nayak, Kane Richardson, Parvez Rasool, Ashok Dinda, and Ajantha Mendis made way for Luke Wright, Raiphi Gomez, Wayne Parnell, Ali Murtaza, and Ishwar Pandey.

On winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of PWI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 42, and lost a wicket.

Uthappa, whose 21-ball (Rob)innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, scored 25. Thirty-four balls into the match, he was caught by Sachithra Senanayake broke the 41-run stand.

PWI scored 50 off eight overs (48 balls). KKR had not conceded any extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 34 balls. While the contribution of Aaron Finch, PWI’s skipper, to the partnership was 30, the contribution of Manish Pandey, the player of the match, to it was 20. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Finch, whose 32-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 48. Forty-three balls after Uthappa’s dismissal, Lakshmipathy Balaji broke the 56-run partnership.

PWI scored 100 off 14.3 overs (87 balls). KKR had conceded an extra at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Manish’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a six – came off 40 balls.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 32 balls. While Manish’s contribution to the partnership was 32, Yuvraj Singh’s contribution to it was 17. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

PWI scored 150 off 18.3 overs (111 balls).

The third-wicket pair eventually put on 65. Manish, whose 47-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, eventually scored 66. Forty balls after Finch’s dismissal, Manvinder Singh Bisla and Jacques Kallis ran him out.

Yuvraj, whose 20-ball innings included three sixes, eventually scored 30. Three balls later, he was caught by Ryan ten Doeschate. Kallis broke the eight-run stand.

Luke Wright, who did not face a ball, was unbeaten.

PWI scored 170 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.

Ten Doeschate, who bowled an over, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he was wicketless.

Rajat Bhatia, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 26.

Sunil Narine, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 26.

Kallis, Balaji and Senanayake bowled four overs each, picking up a scalp apiece. They conceded 48, 41, and 22, respectively.

Bisla scored a run. Ten balls into the chase, he was trapped leg be‘four’ wicket by Parnell, who broke the 17-run stand.

Kallis, who faced seven balls, scored just a run. Fourteen balls later, Parnell broke the eight-run stand.

Gambhir, whose 17-ball innings included a boundary, scored a dozen. Four balls later, he was caught by Yuvraj. Ishwar broke the run-a-ball stand.  

KKR scored 50 off 7.2 overs (44 balls). PWI had conceded 15 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 35 balls. While Yusuf Pathan’s contribution to the partnership was 31, ten Doeschate’s contribution to it was 23. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

KKR scored 100 off 12.1 overs (73 balls).

The fourth-wicket pair eventually scored 98. Ten Doeschate, whose 30-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually scored 42. Sixty-seven balls after Gambhir’s dismissal, Murtaza and Uthappa ran him out.

Manoj Tiwary, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the (Ku)mark. Three balls later, he was caught by Manish. Bhuvneshwar broke the one-run stand.

Yusuf’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a six – came off 32 balls.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 20. He eventually scored 72 off 44 balls, which included eight boundaries and a couple of sixes. Nine balls after Manoj’s dismissal, he was dismissed obstructing the field.  

KKR scored 150 off 18.1 overs (109 balls).

Debabrata Das, whose six-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. He was unbeaten.

The seventh-wicket pair put on a dozen. Bhatia, whose nine-ball innings included a boundary, scored 10. Eleven balls after Yusuf’s dismissal, Wright, Uthappa, and Angelo Mathews ran him out.

Senanayake, who faced a ball, scored a couple. He was unbeaten.

KKR, who scored 163 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs, had no reason to be in seventh heaven.

Yuvraj and Wright bowled an over each, conceding 11 apiece. They were wicketless, as was Gomez, who bowled an over, conceding five.

Angelo Mathews, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 25.

Murtaza, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 34.

Ishwar, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 17. He picked up a wicket, as did Bhuvneshwar, who bowled four overs, conceding 22.

Parnell, who bowled four overs, conceded 34. He picked up a couple of scalps.
