On winning the toss, Shikhar Dhawan, SRH’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings -which was the
mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 43,
without the loss of a wicket.
KXIP’s openers put on 50 off 6.3 overs (39 balls). SRH had
conceded an extra at that point. While Cheteshwar Pujara’s contribution to the
partnership was 20, Virender Sehwag’s contribution to it was 30.
Sehwag, whose 22-ball innings included a couple of
boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 30. Forty balls into the match,
he was caught by Daren Sammy. Amit Mishra broke the 51-run partnership.
Pujara, whose 32-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries,
eventually scored 35. Twenty-six balls later, he was caught by Venugopal Rao.
Sammy broke the 35-run stand.
KXIP scored 100 off 12.1 overs (73 balls). SRH had
conceded four extras at that point.
Glenn Maxwell scored 50 off 21 balls, which included a boundary
and half-a-dozen sixes.

Irfan, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 28. He was
wicketless, as were Karn Sharma and Dale Steyn, who bowled four overs apiece.
While the former conceded 37, the latter conceded 26.
Sammy, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 22. He
picked up a wicket.
Mishra, who bowled four overs, conceded 56. He picked up a
couple of wickets.
Bhuvneshwar, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 19. He
picked up three scalps.
