Rohit-led MI triumph over Chennai

Neither MI nor CSK made any changes to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, Rohit Sharma, India’s skipper, chose to bat.

The match was attended by 61,619 people.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 34, and lost three wickets.

Dwayne Smith, who faced four balls, scored as many. His runs came by way of a boundary. He was trapped leg be‘four’ wicket by Mohit Sharma, who broke the run-a-ball stand.

Aditya Tare, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. Three balls later, Albie Morkel broke the four-run stand.

Rohit, who faced five balls, scored a couple. Thirteen balls later, he was caught by Albie, who broke the eight-run stand.

MI scored 50 off nine overs (54 balls). CSK had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Dinesh Karthik, whose 26-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 21. Thirty-seven balls after Rohit’s disM(orr)issal, Chris broke the 36-run stand.

Fifty-eight balls (9.4 overs into the match), there was a milestone – Kieron Pollard, the player of the match, scored his 1,000th IPL run.

MI scored 100 off 15 overs (90 balls). CSK had conceded four extras at that point.

Ambati Rayudu, whose 36-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 37. Thirty-four balls later, Dwayne, the Purple Cap holder, Br(av)oke the 48-run stand.

Pollard’s half-century – which included seven boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 31 balls.

He eventually scored 60 off 32 balls, which included the aforementioned number of boundaries, in addition to three sixes. He was unbeaten.

Harbhajan Singh, whose eight-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 14. Sixteen balls later, he was caught by Michael Hussey, the Orange Cap holder. Bravo broke the 25-run stand.

The seventh-wicket pair put on eight. Rishi Dhawan, who faced three balls, scored as many. Five balls later, Mohit and Morris ran him out.

Mitchell Johnson, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Three balls later, he was caught by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper. Bravo broke the two-run stand.

The (Dho)ninth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Lasith Malinga, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. A couple of balls later, he was caught behind off the bowling of Bravo.

Pragyan Ojha, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

CSK eventually conceded five extras. MI scored 148 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs.

Ravindra Jadeja, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 19. He was wicketless, as was Ravichandran Ashwin, who bowled three overs, conceded 22.

Mohit and Morris bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 26, the latter conceded 25.

Albie, who bowled three overs, conceded a dozen. He picked up two wickets.

Bravo, who bowled four overs, conceded 42. He picked up four scalps.  

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 35, and lost four wickets.

Michael Hussey, whose faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Four balls into the chase, Malinga broke the two-run stand.

The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Suresh Raina, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The (Dway)next ball, he was caught by Smith off the bowling of Malinga.

Subramaniam Badrinath, who faced three balls, didn’t get off the mark. Five balls later, he was caught by Dinesh. Johnson broke the one-run stand.

Bravo, whose 16-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 15. Twenty balls later, he was caught by Johnson. Rishi broke the 32-run stand.

Jadeja, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls later, he was caught by Pollard. Harbhajan broke the one-run stand.

Murali Vijay, whose 20-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 18. Five balls later, he was caught by Rohit. Johnson broke the three-run stand.

CSK scored 50 off 8.5 overs (53 balls). MI had conceded four extras at that point.

Albie, whose run-a-ball innings included a six, scored 10. Twenty-one balls after Vijay’s dismissal, Pragyan broke the 18-run stand.

Morris, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. Three balls later, he was caught by Dinesh. Harbhajan broke the one-run stand.

Ashwin, who faced 18 balls, scored nine. Thirty-seven balls later, he was caught by the substitute, Axar Patel. Pollard broke the 41-run stand.

CSK scored 100 off 18.1 overs (109 balls). MI had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Dhoni’s half-century – which included a couple of boundaries and four sixes – came off 41 balls.

He eventually scored 63 off 45 balls, which included three boundaries and five sixes, and was unbeaten.

Mohit, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. He was unbeaten.

MI eventually conceded nine extras. CSK, who scored 125 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs, lost by 23 runs.

Rishi, who bowled an over, conceded half-a-dozen. He picked up a wicket, as did Pollard and Pragyan, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 34, the latter conceded 28.

Harbhajan, who bowled three overs, conceded 14. He picked up a couple of scalps, as did Malinga and Johnson, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 22, the latter conceded 19.
