Mumbai lose to Gambhir-led KKR

KKR made seven Cha(wla)nges to their playing (Mork)eleven – Manvinder Bisla, Eoin Morgan, Ryan ten Doeschate, Paras Dogra, Iqbal Abdulla, Pradeep Sangwan, and Mohammed Shami made way for Manish Pandey, Robin Uthappa, Shakib Al Hasan, Suryakumar Yadav, Piyush, Vinay Kumar, and Morne.

MI made four changes to their playing (Micha)eleven – Dwayne Smith, Dinesh Karthik, Rishi Dhawan, and Mitchell Johnson made way for Hussey, Corey Anderson, Chidhambaram Gautam, and Zaheer Khan.

On winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 31, and lost a wicket.

Gambhir, who faced eight balls, didn’t get off the mark. Ten balls into the match, Lasith Malinga broke the four-run stand.

KKR scored 50 off 8.4 overs (52 balls). MI had conceded three extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 44 balls. While the contribution of Jacques Kallis, the player of the match, to the partnership was 20, Pandey’s contribution to it was 28. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Pandey’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a six – came off 42 balls.

KKR scored 100 off 14.4 overs (88 balls). MI had conceded three extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 44 balls. While Kallis’ contribution to the partnership was 45, Pandey’s contribution to it was 53. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Pandey eventually scored 64 off 53 balls, which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a couple of sixes. Ninety-two balls after Gambhir’s dismissal, Malinga broke the 131-run partnership.

Robin Uthappa, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. An over later, he was caught by Rohit Sharma, MI’s skipper. Zaheer Khan broke the nine-run stand.

Kallis’ half-century – which included three boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 37 balls.

He eventually scored 72 off 46 balls, which included five boundaries and three sixes. A couple of balls after Uthappa’s dismissal, he was caught by Anderson. Malinga broke the one-run stand.

Yusuf Pathan, who faced four balls, scored as many. He was unbeaten.

Shakib, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Four balls after Kallis’ dismissal, he was caught by Rohit. Malinga broke the run-a-ball stand.

KKR scored 150 off 19.1 overs (115 balls). MI had conceded eight extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Suryakumar, whose five-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 13. He was unbeaten.

KKR scored 163 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.

Kieron Pollard, who bowled two wicketless overs, conceded 19.

Anderson and Harbhajan Singh bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 33, the latter conceded 25.

Pragyan Ojha, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 36.

Zaheer, who bowled four overs, conceded 23. He picked up a wicket.

Malinga, who bowled four overs, conceded 23. He picked up four scalps.

Michael Hussey, who faced 13 balls, scored three. Twenty-eight balls into the chase, Sunil Narine broke the 24-run stand.

Aditya Tare, whose 22-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 24. Nineteen balls later, he was caught by Shakib, who broke the 16-run stand.

MI scored 50 off 9.2 overs (56 balls). KKR hadn’t conceded any extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 41 balls. While Ambati Rayudu’s contribution to the partnership was 30, Rohit’s contribution to it was 20. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

MI scored 100 off 15.1 overs (91 balls). KKR had conceded four extras at that point.

Rohit, whose 20-ball innings included a six, scored 27. Forty-five balls after Tare’s dismissal, he was caught by Kallis. Morne broke the 61-run partnership.

Ambati Rayudu, whose 40-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 48. Five balls later, he was stumped by Uthappa. Narine broke the five-run stand.

Pollard, who faced eight balls, scored half-a-dozen. He was unbeaten.

Anderson, who faced eight balls, scored a couple. A dozen balls after Rayudu’s dismissal, Narine was in seventh heaven.

The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Harbhajan, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls later, he was dismissed by Narine.

Although his run-a-ball innings included a boundary, Gautam had on reason to be in seventh heaven – nine balls (Chaw)later, he was stumped by Uthappa. Piyush broke the nine-run stand.

KKR eventually conceded five extras. MI, who scored 122 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs, lost by 41 runs.

Vinay, who bowled two overs, conceded 15. He was wicketless, as was Kallis, who bowled three overs, conceding 23.

Chawla, who bowled three overs, conceded 15. He picked up a wicket, as did Shakib and Morne, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 29, the latter conceded 16.
