Bangalore heartbroken; Watson-led RR triumph

RCB made a couple of changes to their playing (Pat)eleven – Sachin Rana and Harshal made way for Vijay Zol and Ashok Dinda.

RR made one change to their playing eleven – Dhawal Kulkarni made way for Rahul Tewatia.

On winning the toss, Virat Kohli, RCB’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 31, and lost a wicket.

Kohli, who faced nine balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Fifteen balls into the match, he was caught by Rajat Bhatia. Kane Richardson broke the six-run stand.

Chris Gayle, whose 25-ball (Prav)innings included three boundaries, scored 19. Thirty-one balls later, he was caught by Sanju Samson. Tambe broke the 32-run stand.

Zol, whose 14-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 16. Three balls later, he was caught by Shane Watson, RR’s skipper. Tewatia broke the two-run stand.

RCB scored 50 off 9.3 overs (57 balls). RR hadn’t conceded any extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 32 balls. While A B de Villiers’ contribution to the partnership was 11, Yuvraj Singh’s contribution to it was 39. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

RCB scored 100 off 14.1 overs (85 balls). RR had conceded an extra at that point.

Yuvraj’s half-century – which included a boundary and four sixes – came off 30 balls.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 100 off 54 balls. While de Villiers’ contribution to the partnership was 31, Yuvraj’s contribution to it was 67. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was half-a-dozen.

RCB scored 150 off 17.2 overs (104 balls). RR had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

De Villiers’ half-century – which included a boundary and four sixes – came off 24 balls.

Yuvraj, whose 38-ball innings included seven boundaries and as many sixes, eventually scored 83. Sixty-five balls after Zol’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Richardson, who broke the 132-run partnership.

De Villiers, whose 32-ball innings included the boundary, in addition to five sixes, eventually scored 58. Four balls later, he was caught by Ajinkya Rahane. James Faulkner, the player of the match, broke the 14-run stand.

Albie Morkel, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten, as was Parthiv Patel, who faced a ball, scoring a couple.

The number of extras they eventually conceded gave RR no reason to be in seventh heaven.

RCB scored 190 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.

Bhatia, who bowled an over, conceded 13. He was wicketless, as was Watson, who bowled four overs, conceding 35.

Tewatia, who bowled three overs, conceded 17. He picked up a wicket, as did Faulkner and Tambe, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 42, the latter conceded 38.

Richardson, who bowled four overs, conceded 43. He picked up a couple of scalps.

The first Powerplay of RR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 45, without the loss of a wicket.

RR’s openers put on 50 off 6.4 overs (40 balls). RCB had conceded a couple of extras at that point. While Rahane’s contribution to the partnership was 23, Karun Nair’s contribution to it was 27.

Rahane, whose 22-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 24. Forty-three balls into the chase, he was caught by Parthiv Patel. Yuzvendra Chahal broke the 54-run partnership.

Watson, who faced five balls, scored a run. Eight balls later, Yuvraj was in seventh heaven.

Stuart Binny, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Three balls later, he was caught by the substitute, Rilee Rossouw. Yuvraj broke the two-run stand.

Nair’s half-century – which included seven boundaries – came off 34 balls.

Samson, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 13. A couple of overs later, he was caught by Yuvraj, who broke the 19-run stand.

RR scored 100 off 13.1 overs (79 balls). RCB had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Nair, whose 39-ball innings included eight boundaries, eventually scored 56. Fifteen balls after Samson’s dismissal, Yuvraj broke the 24-run stand.

RR scored 150 off 17.1 overs (103 balls). RCB had conceded four extras at that point.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 50 off 23 balls. While Steven Smith’s contribution to the partnership was 28, Faulkner’s contribution to it was 21. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Steven, whose 21-ball innings included four boundaries and as many sixes, eventually scored 48. He was unbeaten, as was Faulkner, who eventually scored 41. His 17-ball innings included three boundaries and as many sixes.

The number of extras they eventually conceded gave RCB no reason to be in seventh heaven.

RR, who scored 191 for the loss of five wickets off 18.5 overs, had a reason to be in seventh heaven – they won by five wickets.

Albie, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 20.

Varun Aaron, who bowled 2.5 wicketless overs, conceded 41.

Ashok Dinda and Mitchell Starc bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 37, the latter conceded 33.

Chahal, who bowled four overs, conceded 24. He picked up a wicket.
